Great Value Tropical Trail Mix

My husband loves trail mix, and during a recent grocery shopping trip to Walmart he picked up a bag of Great Value Tropical Trail Mix. These bags of trail mix were prominently displayed as soon as we walked into the store, and to be honest, this was an impulse purchase, but not one we have regretted.

Great Value, a brand sold at Walmart stores, makes a wide variety of foods and products for the home. By and large I have been very pleased with the quality of Great Value products, and some have even replaced the brand names that I have been loyal to for years.

Great Value Tropical Trail Mix is a tasty blend of papaya, pineapple, golden raisins, banana chips, apricots, cranberries, almonds, cashews, and macadamia nuts. There is a large round window in the bag that reveals exactly what you are getting, and the 28 ounce bag has a handy zippered closure along the top to keep the trail mix tasting fresh. The bag is quite large, and at only $5.48 the price was right.

The kind of trail mix that my husband generally buys contains an assortment of nuts, sunflower seeds, chocolate candies (like M&M;’s), and raisins. The Great Value Tropical Trail Mix is a real tasty treat if you like tropical style fruits! I was so surprised when I discovered macadamia nuts in this mix, and the chunks of fruit are generously large. The one aspect of this mix that took some getting used to was eating the assorted nuts without any added salt. I know that salt is not really healthy, but I love salted nuts.

If I have one complaint about the Great Value Tropical Trail Mix, it would be that the fruit is a little bit on the soft side, some of it is almost mushy. The only fruit that is on the crispy side are the banana chips, but I have certainly eaten banana chips that are even more crunchy than these are. I think the addition of fruits that hold a lot of water, such as papaya and pineapple, add to the moisture in the bag that makes the ingredients less crunchy than they would otherwise be.

Great Value Tropical Trail Mix is tasty, and a good snack to take along while camping, hiking or fishing, but I try not to eat too much at one sitting. Just one fourth of a cup, which is one serving, contains 140 calories and 4.5 grams of fat. The saturated fats are low at 1.5 grams, and there are zero of the unhealthy trans fats. There are zero milligrams of cholesterol, only 30 mg sodium, 100 mg potassium, 22 grams of carbohydrates, 1 gram of fiber, 10 grams of sugars, and 2 grams of protein.

Overall, the Great Value Tropical Trail Mix is a tasty snack, and my husband loves it so much he is planning on taking the bag with him on a hunting trip.
