Great Lakes Nosferatu – Beer Review

The image on the label of Great Lakes Nosferatu is enough that it could probably scare a small child. But as grim as it may be, it represents a beer of immense weight. I’m talking about a beer that deserves respect of many, but is known by few. This is a beer that is so beautiful it should probably be the subject of a project by a great painter. This is a beer so tasty it should probably be on the taste buds of beer lovers all over the world. This is a beer with a smell so good that animals across the globe would be drawn to it if only they knew of its existence. This is the Great Lakes Nosferatu.

While the image of a vampire from the 1920s is probably intimidating, you should not be scared of this beer. That is, unless you’re scared of amazing flavor and getting drunk. In that case, steer clear of this brew. This is a beer brewed for the Halloween season. It’s perfect to grab for a party during this time of year, as it will certainly frighten your guests with its robust alcohol content. At a whopping 8%, this is a beverage that will have party goers feeling tipsy with only a couple of beers. And that’s probably better for you as the host, since these are only available in four-packs and tend to be a bit on the expensive side. But you pay for what you get here. This is no standard beer. This is premium in the truest sense of the word.

This is a beer with a high level of hops. And when I say a high level of hops, I mean that the Great Lakes Brewing Company must have brought in no less than a boat load of hops to pour into this beer. Somehow the flavor is remarkably balanced, though. What limited malt can be detected in the flavor does a perfect job of limiting the bitterness so commonly associated with beers containing too much hop flavor. My friends love this beer and I do, too. If it were available year round and I were rich, you can believe that I’d make this my beer of choice for the rest of my life. Until that happens, I’ll look forward to it as a special treat when the time is right.
