Goodbye Gifts that Will Touch Their Heart

Goodbye. Farewell. Adios. So long. Sayonara. Cheerio. Ciao. No matter how you say it, bidding someone adieu is never easy, nor does it feel good. I’ve often thought it should be called “badbye” since that is what it really feels like. Nevertheless, if they must be going you will surely want to get them a nice farewell gift to remember you by.

The best goodbye gifts are those that are either personal or sentimental. You want the person to remember you fondly each time they see the gift you gave them. It can be something that evokes a memory of a special time you shared with them, or something that reminds them of the people or places they’re leaving behind.

Perhaps there’s something you can give them which will remind them of an inside joke, something that was just between the two of you. No matter what you give them, if your goodbye gift brings to mind a pleasant memory, it will be cherished and appreciated.

If a friend or relative is moving away, you should keep your goodbye gift small and easily packable. Moving is stressful enough without having to figure out how to pack something big and bulky, or worry about it getting broken in transit.

Here are a few great goodbye gift ideas.

~ A personalized sculpture, candle or statuettes. With a quick search online you can find hundreds of nice farewell gifts that offer custom engraving of names, dates and sentiments. When I moved recently, a dear friend gave me this beautiful “Because of You” Keepsake Sculpture that is absolutely exquisite. It’s made from clear Lucite and has a heartwarming verse engraved on it, along with a special message from my friend to make it one of a kind.

~ Memento gift box. Fill a small gift box with little treasures that will remind them of the city they’re leaving behind. Perhaps there is a lavender shop in town that sells fragrant handmade soaps and essential oils, or a store that has their own line of beauty products. My former town had an annual parade, and another thoughtful friend gave me a set of the posters from the last five years. Every town has something which makes it unique and memorable, and this in turn makes a nice goodbye gift.

~ Forget-Me-Nots. It’s not difficult to find things with this dainty blue flower on them, and they make a sentimental goodbye gift. You could even accompany the gift with a package of Forget-Me-Not seeds and a handwritten note. I received a lovely hand-painted Forget-Me-Not brooch, and every time I wear it (which is often), I think of the wonderful friend who gave it to me.

~ A sweet goodbye gift for a child is the adorable “Forget Me Not Bear” by Gund, which has a picture frame that will hold your photo. “Forget me Not” is written on the red ribbon around his neck. The 6″ tall bear is bean filled and arrives in a gift bag.

No matter what goodbye gift you choose, if it’s given with love and good intentions, it will surely touch their heart.
