Germaine’s Luau on the Island of Oahu, Hawaii: Luau Review

One of Hawaii’s greatest cultural experiences still around today is the luau. The luau is something enjoyed by locals and tourists alike. If you are new to the Hawaiian Islands, it’s a great way to make friends and experience a bit of Old Hawaii at the same time. There are few superb luaus on the island of Oahu today. One of them is Germaine’s Luau. Here is a review of Germaine’s Luau on the island of Oahu, Hawaii.

Germaine’s Luau includes a multi course American Hawaiian buffet. It combines traditional Island dishes and continental fare. Of course, its centerpiece is Kalua Pig, roasted pig that is cooked in an ‘imu, a hole in the ground used for cooking meat with heated stones. If that doesn’t float your boat, no problem. This luau feast also includes fried chicken, teriyaki beef, chicken long rice, island fish and tossed green salad. You can also enjoy poi, rice, salmon, pineapple coleslaw, three bean salad, dinner rolls, and a variety of desserts, including fresh pineapple, coconut pudding, and your choice of vanilla coconut or chocolate cake. In other words, there is something for everyone.

Germaine’s Luau offers complimentary soft drinks, hot coffee or tea. But I recommend their outstanding tropical drinks – the Mai Tai, Blue Hawaiian, Pina Coloda, Chi Chi, Lava Flow or Germaine’s Special. They also serve domestic and imported beer and wine. This is major asset for Germaine’s Luau, as the luau at the Polynesian Cultural Center does not serve alcohol, because it’s a Mormon-owned facility.

At Germaine’s Luau, you will find great food, a fun and energetic crowd, and it’s all reasonably priced. The all-you-can-eat-buffet is only $65 per person, and includes the Polynesian show and a shuttle to and from Waikiki. (Luaus can run you up to two hundred bucks per person.) The Polynesian show is great, as is the overall experience. If this is to be your first luau, Germaine’s is a really good place to start – it’s affordable, fun and folksy.

Located in Kalaeloa on the leeward side of Oahu, Germaine’s Luau is about a forty-five minute drive from Waikiki. The luau begins daily at six p.m., but take note, they are closed on Mondays during the winter. For more information, you can check out their web site at germainesluau.com, or you can call them at 808-949-6626. Aloha, and enjoy Germaine’s Luau on the island of Oahu in Hawaii.
