Fun Things to Do in Madison, Wisconsin

As a college student in Madison, Wisconsin, there are a lot of different fun and exciting activities to do throughout the city. Whether it is watching a football game, going to a concert or going out and drinking, Madison has it all.

Whenever anyone from Wisconsin thinks of Madison, they think of the Badgers, the UW’s football team, and you think of State Street. Street is very well known for bars, partying, and getting wild! There are so many bars on State Street and going there basically it is a fun time there every night of the week. Also that is where a lot of the restaurants and clubs are also.

Some of the bars on State Street include the Irish Pub, Pantheon Bar, Hawks, Monday’s Bar, Saz, City Bar and plenty of others. There are also quite a few other bars on the streets that connect with State Street. But this is definitely the party area to be in! It is a whole lot of fun. There is so much to do on this street it is amazing.

The Uptop Lounge is a really cool place to go to with friends. They are located at 316 State Street above Parthenon Gyros. They are the only outdoor roof garden lounge in Madison. Every time we have gone there, they have been packed! It is a lot of fun there. They have beer tents, live music and a great atmosphere. This is a must see place! It is a really cool place to hang out at. Plus make sure you check out the giant inflatable Bucky the Badger, the UW’s mascot! Every UW Student needs a picture next to him.

The Comedy Club on State is also a fun place to go to and hang out. They are located at 119 State Street. Thursday nights are there nights to showcase up and coming comics from Madison, Milwaukee, and Chicago. They have some really funny shows here and it is only $8 on Thursdays and $10 on Fridays and Saturdays so make sure to check this place out.

The Blue Velvet Lounge is another awesome place to kick back and enjoy some drinks. They have a really cool atmosphere with black leather chairs and a blue neon bar. They have separate small tables that you can sit at or very comfortable black leather bar stools to sit on. This is another must see place. They are located at 430 Gilman Street in Madison.

The Mitchell Theatre is the theatre for the UW. They put on some really entertaining shows and plays here. So if Theatre and Drama and plays are what you are into, this is the place for you to check out.

Dotty Dumpling’s Dowry is located at 317 North Frances Street. This is a great place to go and have a few drinks and a bite to eat. They offer 25 different beers on tap and serve an award winning hamburgers. This is also a great place to go to and watch sports events because they have 4 flat screen plasma TVs located around the bar. They are also known for selling buffalo and ostrich.

Wando’s bar and grill also has a fun atmosphere. They are located at 603 University Avenue. If you go there try their fish bowl drink! It is huge! They also have a lot of plasma TVs throughout the bar so you can watch the Badgers play. You can also order some really awesome burger and appetizers here. They also serve entrees and desserts.

Madison Avenue is one of the hottest entertainment spots in Madison. They are located at 634 University Avenue. They have karaoke every Wednesday through Saturday. They have a bar, teen dance club and restaurant all in one big building. The bar has couches and small tables all over the place so that you can sit back and enjoy the night. The art works on the walls is amazing! It really adds to the atmosphere of the place. They also have a great menu at their restaurant. Their 6 oz ribeye sandwich is my favorite! Thursday nights are the nights to go to Johnny O’s. If you go there before midnight and have your UW id with you, you get to drink half priced all night.

The Alliant Energy Coliseum located at 1919 Alliant Energy Center Way is a great place to see your favorites bands play at. From bands like Disturbed to 3 Doors Down to Godsmack, they get a lot of famous bands and acts to perform there. Check online to see who is playing there and on what date.

You can also go take a tour of the State Capitol. It is located at 2 East Main Street. It is Wisconsin’s third capitol building. It is a really interesting place to take a tour through and the best part is that admission is free. It is worth it to go through here at least once.

Club 5 located at 5 Applegate Court is Madison’s gay and lesbian bar. It is a dance club, bar and restaurant. They even have a great outdoor patio that you can drink on. They also have female and male impersonators perform there weekly.

These are just very few of the fun and exciting things to do and see in Madison. Madison offers many other bars, restaurants, museums, shopping centers and so much more! It is definitely a city full of a lot of opportunities.
