Fun April Fool’s Pranks for Teachers

Students have a long history of pulling April Fool’s pranks on teachers. We’ve all heard stories of chalk in erasers, fake bugs, and hiding in the closet. This year, it’s time for teachers to pull some pranks! Beware, if you fool your kiddos early in the day, there might be some retaliation. Keep your eyes and ears alert all day!

1. April Fool’s Day Wordsearch: Each year I start my school day with this wordsearch from Disney’s Family Fun. I tell my students this is the hardest wordsearch in the world, and only the smartest people will be able to find the words. The wordsearch is tricky because all of the words are spelled out missing just one letter. Don’t tell your students, but only ONE of the words is actually hidden in the puzzle – April Fool’s!

2. April Fool’s Maze: After the wordsearch, I challenge my students to a race to see who can find their way through this tricky maze first. The secret – there’s no solution!

3. Mystery Directions: During our independent work time, I hand out a worksheet without reading the directions aloud. See how many of your students actually FOLLOW the directions.

Directions: This is a timed test. You will only have two minutes to complete the following list. You must work quickly. Read all steps first. Record your responses in the space below.

Complete the following list:

1. Draw a large rectangle at the bottom of this paper.

2. Print your name in the upper right corner of the rectangle.

3. Draw two small squares in the lower left corner of the rectangle.

4. Place an “x” in one of the small squares; place an “o” in the other small square.

5. Write your grade level in the lower right corner.

6. Print today’s date underneath your name.

7. Draw three circles in the upper left corner of the rectangle.

8. Divide each circle in half by drawing a line through the center horizontally.

9. Sign your name in the lower right hand corner of the rectangle.

10. Draw a circle around your signature.

11. Write your birthday in the center of the rectangle.

12. Do not do steps 1-11.

Happy April Fool’s Day to all of my fellow teachers! Enjoy!
