Free Mulch in the Colorado Front Range

If you need mulch for your spring gardening projects, here are some places where you can get free mulch from recycled trees in Denver and the Colorado front range areas. Mulching your garden helps protect your plants, conserve water, and makes your landscaped areas look tidy.

Free Mulch: Denver, Colorado
The Denver free mulch program started May 02, 2009. However there is still free mulch available at Havana Nursery (10450 Smith Rd., two blocks south of I-70 on Havana – Exit 280). Check the website for more information. Free mulch is for Denver residents only.

Free Mulch: Wheatridge, Colorado
Free mulch is available year round to Wheatridge residents only at Prospect Park, 11300 W. 44th Ave. Bring your own shovel and bags or containers. No assistance is provided. Check here for more information.

Free Mulch: Westminster, Colorado
Free Mulch is available to Westminster residents on the last Saturday of each month at the south side of Standley Lake. Enter through the north side of 88th Avenue between Independence Drive and Kipling Street. More information can be found here.

Free Mulch: Broomfield, Colorado
Free Mulch is available year round at the Broomfield recycling center at 225 Commerce Street. You can take as much as you want, just bring your own shovel and containers. Open Saturdays 8 AM to 5 PM, and Wednesdays 1 PM to 5 PM. More information here.

Free Mulch: Evergreen, Colorado
Lam Tree Services in Evergreen offers free mulch. They will deliver within a few miles of their shop in North Evergreen, but will deliver to outlying areas if they are working in the area. Call to get on the delivery list. Visit lamtree.com for more information.

Free Mulch: Colorado Springs
Colorado Springs offers free mulch at several locations including the Forestery Operations Center at 1601 Recreation Way, Memorial Park at 1605 E. Pikes Peak Ave, and Cottonwood Park Recreation Center at 3920 Dublin Boulevard. See here for more information and directions to the mulch locations.

Free Mulch: Boulder, Colorado
In Boulder, woodchips are free for anyone to pickup at the Western Disposal Transfer Station at 5880 Butte Mill Road. They are open 7 AM to 5 PM Monday-Saturday during the summer. See here for more information. They also sell twice-ground woodchips and finished compost.

Free Mulch- Nederland, Colorado
Wood chip mulch is available to anyone free of charge as long as supplies last at the Boulder County Waste Transfer/Recycling Center at 286 Ridge Road in Nederland. You must load your own. Call 303-258-7878 for more information. Open 8 AM to 4 PM daily, except Wednesdays.

Free Mulch- Lyons, Colorado
Woodchips are free to anyone to pickup, subject to availability, at Bohn Park in Lyons. Call the Lyons town hall at 303-823-6622 for more information.

If you don’t see your area listed here, contact your city, county or local Colorado forestry area to find out about mulch they may offer for your gardening needs.
