Food Ideas for a Winter Wedding

Hearty Soup, Italian Wedding

Winter weddings can be very memorable events in everyone’s lives. They are unique in every way, including the food. But considering you need to be a little more unique when it comes to a winter wedding’s food, should you be nervous? Not at all! In fact, a winter wedding allows you to express your creativity even more so! Here are some helpful tips when planning the menu for your very special wintry day.

Winter equals hearty appetites. In winter, people are typically looking for those comfort foods that warm the belly and the soul! This means foods that are on the more hearty side, but don’t worry… you don’t have to go rugged on them! Serve hearty fare in creative and sophisticated ways. For instance, you can go something that’s in season like pumpkin… turning it into a sophisticated, memorable, and very delicious pumpkin soup served up in cute little ramekins. Or, really, you could do any type of hearty soup like a very favorite called Italian Wedding Soup which is very festive and delicious.

Go for beverages that match the season. For instance, you could incorporate a little bit of eggnog or another spiced drink to go with what’s popular for the season, or you could go with everyone’s favorite – mixed coffee drinks! Keep in mind that it may be a good idea to have hot drinks on hand as well, like coffee and tea or maybe even some hot chocolate!

Now for the cake. A really sassy winter wedding cake has a lot of white going on, but don’t be afraid it will drown out the cake – go with an all white cake with white marzipan snowflakes on it, or if you really want to add some color to your cake then a great choice is to use in-season flowers. A chocolate center to the white cake is a great idea, too, and conjures up warm thoughts on these cold winter days. Indeed, the richer the better – a decadent chocolate cake is the perfect winter selection. Just be sure to use lots of additions that mark it as a winter wedding cake, using shapes like snowflakes.

Get even more festive. Some great additions to the dessert table could include wintry items like sugar cookies that are in the shape of snowflakes or snowmen, or are decorated with such seasonal emblems.

Remember to give your guests plenty of time to plan on being there. Remember, in the winter months there are lots of holidays taking place, and many people are on vacation visiting their families. And, as much as they love you, it may be more important for them to be with their families than to attend your wedding. Take this into account, and either plan your wedding at a time that people will not be off vacationing (such as on the Christmas weekend) or else give them lots of time to plan in advance. Get those invitations out there early! And enjoy your festive and very delicious wedding day!
