Fishing Costa Rica’s Rain Forest Shore Line

Costa Rica in Central America has its own Rain Forest that is coming under attack by none other than the traffic of humans. Like the Amazon, the South West Coast of the Pacific Ocean is part of a unique Eco-system not only on land but also in the waters.

In this beautiful paradise people who fish come from all over to a place called “Crocodile Bay lodge” located in a rain forest clearing not far from the prime fishing waters. Many a fisherman wouldn’t dream of going out without a guide to take them to the best fishing locations. To the sportsman it can be a costly adventure to come back empty handed unless the thrill of fishing the Rain Forest is compensation enough.

Fishing in winter and spring months for one person can run around $2,495. During the summer and fall it will run around $1,995. The fruitful waters are said to be bountiful the whole year round.

The sun can bake a sportsman to a crisp because of the Costa Rica Rain Forests tropical setting. This is not much of a deterrent for the determined amateur or seasoned fishmonger possibly because some of the smaller fish can weigh in at 20 pounds.

What kind of fish frequently comes up on the fishing agenda? Colorado Snapper, Blue Marlin, Sailfish, Tuna, Dorado, and Roosterfish for starters are among the menu. Sardines also find them selves to be a popular target. The fish swim at depths reaching 1000 feet when boating ten miles from the shore. Thrill seekers who enjoy diving into the ocean waters find the variety of fish a once in a lifetime sight seeing opportunity. Diving fishermen see below the surface fishing as a way to hunt between the crevices and cracks of reefs and rocks.

The fate of the fish that live in this area is anyone’s guess. With the cost of Costa Rica’s year round fishing opportunities come the dangers that fishermen impose on all the oceans inhabitants. Some of the inhabitants are Whales and Dolphins. They to call the Pacific Ocean home and they have suffered the perils that come with fishing.

With the constant modernization of fishing tools and GPS tracking devices fish are finding it harder if impossible to hide. With this we should remember that while Costa Rica is fast becoming a fisherman’s paradise in the end there may be nothing left to fish.
