Finding the Best Bakery in Chicago for Cakes, Cookies and More

When was the last time you craved a chocolate brownie? Maybe you have a weakness for strawberry shortcake? Perhaps you feel like adding a few inches to your hips, just for the heck of it? Well, here’s some of the most yummy and taste tempting sweet treats you’ll find in Chicago.

Roeser’s Bakery
3216 W North Ave
Chicago, IL 60647
773-489-6900

I still smile when I think of this glorious little bakery on the Northwest side of the city. When I was a kid, I lived blocks away from Roeser’s. My mom would take me to get my favorite yellow smile face cookies. This place has some of the best cakes, breads and other amazing goodies baked fresh on the premises. They come from all around to just drool in their windows. But stop drooling and start munching out at this bakery! I recommend their strawberry shortcake; it’s my personal favorite.

Ace Bakeries
3241 S. Halsted Street
Chicago, IL 60608
773-225-4973

You know how I knew I loved this place? When I was willing to travel all the way to Bridgeport just to get my fix! Excellent bakery items. You can indulge your taste buds with everything from lemon tarts, cheesecake, chocolate covered strawberries or carrot cake, and then pick up a couple giant Spongebob or smile face cookies for the kids (or, if you’re like me, for yourself 🙂 They do a lot of special orders for birthday parties and also sell those fun balloons and candles. If you just can’t wait until you get home to dive into that eclair, there is a tiny area to enjoy your treats in the store.

Aaaaah!! (Sorry for that temporary melt down. It’s just me, on a major sugar high). Why you may ask? Well, it’s all the fault of this bakery. I’m flying high on sugar and sweet visions of cakes, cookies and way, WAY too many tempting delights. I recently stopped by on my way home from a long day at the beach (yeah, it’s a rough life). I felt the bakery calling me in. I picked up a couple slices of cake (the yellow raspberry was fabulous) and I discovered that they are now serving paninis, some deli sandwiches and other items. I also like the tuna and the fudge cake (but not at the same time J) But it’s hard to choose, because everything is just so delicious! The people here are super nice and the place has this warm, fuzzy feeling about it.

Pierre’s II Bakery
2747 N Milwaukee Ave
Chicago, IL 60647
773-252-8888

How can a bakery be this pretty? Those are the words I was thinking when I first walked in. The place is gorgeous inside. Big and roomy, with little tables and chairs. They have a lot of wonderful goodies to tempt you. (Hey, can I move in, Pierre’s??) They make some mind blowing looking cakes for special occasions. But they also have an area where you can just pick up a cookie or a biscuit or two, or perhaps a slice of coffee cake.
