Trust vs. Mistrust

At this age you are 0-18 months old. This is from when you are born through when you are a baby. You start to walk at this age. Your main relationship is with your mother. You are developing the most in your life at this point. You are sleeping, being comforted, and eating. You are going to see some people/things that you trust or like and some that you don’t

Autonomy vs. Shame

This age is when you are 18-36 months old. You are a toddler. You are being potty trained. Your main relationship is with your parents. This is your early childhood age. You are gaining control of bodily functions with your muscles. You can start to walk now. You will feel good when you are given a freedom and you succeed with it, but you will feel ashamed if you fail at it.

Initiative vs. Guilt

At this age you are 3-6 years old. You are in preschool or possibly kindergarten. Your main relationships are with your family members. You are going to discover a lot of things and play a lot. You are also going to explore things in the world. You don’t have any school work and are starting to learn on your own.

Industry vs. Inferiority

At this age you are 5-12 years old. You are at in your early school years. Your main relationships are with your family, teachers, friends, school, and neighborhood. You have a sense of achievement or accomplishment when you do something good or hard. You have interactions with your peers. You will have a sense of industry when you are part of a team, but you will have a sense of inferiority when you are not part of a team. You now care about school grades and have school work instead of playing at school.

Identity vs. Identity Confusion

At this age you are 9-18 years old. You are in your teen years and are probably going through puberty. Your main relationships are with your peers, groups, and other people who influence you, along with everybody who was one of your main relations in previous stages. You are finding your true self and identity, but you may be confused about what direction you want to steer your life towards. You also are now becoming an adult, and are developing at the 2nd fastest rate in you life. Your appearance is becoming more and more important, you are beginning to experience stress, and you are getting more serious about things.

Intimacy vs. Isolation

At this age you are about 18-40 years old. You are now dating, or are in your early parenthood years. Your main relationships include social partner(s), classmates work connections, and friends. You are now a young adult and have a work and social life. You are now choosing whether you want to be by yourself or not. Your job is now important to you.

Generativity vs. Stagnation

You are now 30-65 years old. You are in your middle years or parenthood. Your main relationships are with you community and children. You are now in adulthood. You are giving back by helping others and contributing to your society. You are now either being active or getting down on yourself and becoming inactive. You may become depressed. You might also do volunteer work.

Integrity vs. Despair

You are now 50 or older. You are now in a mature age. Your main relationships are with the world and your society. You are looking back on your life’s achievements, accomplishments. You have discovered your meaning and purpose. You might be sad that your life is nearing its end, or you might take pride in what you have spent your life on. You also might become more religious.
