Did Patrick Jane Kill Red John?

Cbi, Patrick Jane, Red John

At the end of last season, Red John was supposedly killed by Patrick Jane. Supposedly is the key here, because the whole show is about Jane seeking vengeance, not justice, on Red John. So with Red John supposedly dead, will the series end? Hardly. So did Jane kill Red John?

No. Here’s why.
Red John is someone that has control over people. He has many followers and they are willing to sacrifice themselves to him, in fact, some even will kill themselves for Red John.
The question is why.

Why would anyone kill themselves for someone else? This is not a sacrifice for a family member, or to defend the country. So why would anyone do that final sacrifice?
Because Red John has convinced his followers that he can guarantee something to them that they aren’t sure of.

Now consider this. Suppose you met some one with the “ability” to read your mind, or to tell your futures. And this person was always right, wouldn’t you drop down your guard, and give that person the benefit of the doubt?

But that’s not all. Consider this. What is the one thing about death that you would absolutely would like to know? …That your family is taken care of?…Ok, but that’s easy…buy life insurance and you can have that. But that’s not the most important thing. Suppose you want a guarantee that your soul will not be ruined after death. Even if you are an atheist, you would certainly say, “sure I wouldn’t want anything bad to happen to me after death.”

Now suppose Red John has just that capacity. First he predicts things about your life that come true…maybe a job, or find love, or happiness. The more he does that, the more convinced you are that this is someone special. He even says that your soul will not be ruined by death.

So did Patrick Jane kill Red John? No.
Then who is Red John? Well it has to be someone that knows Jane very well, and has similar “psychic” powers like Jane, however this person doesn’t deny that the powers exist. (Jane, as a former “psychic”, now disputes that there is such a thing as psychic ability.) Nevertheless, Red John’s followers do believe in the psychic powers of their mentor-guide.

So does anyone in the show have that psychic ability? Actually yes; that is the psychic that annoys Patrick Jane, and it is not a he, it is Kristina Frye. She has worked with the CBI on occasion as a consultant, like Jane, and totally annoys Jane by her unmitigated belief in her psychic powers. She also flaunts them in his face. However, at one point, she is under 24 hour guard watch by the CBI in her house to protect her from Red John, but she suddenly disappears.

Later when she reappears, she is supposed to be in a trance and dead and speaking from the beyond. Of course, Jane doesn’t believe this.

So here is where we stand? Kristina Frye is a psychic. She knows Patrick Jane very well, she has worked with the CBI so she knows where the investigation is going into Red John. Plus she has disappeared mysteriously and reappeared mysteriously. So in the end, the person that claimed to be Red John, and who was killed by Jane, was one of the followers of Red John, but not Red John. The psychic, Kristina Frye, is Red John.
