Department Stores in Canada

A great way to shop for fashion in Toronto is shopping in department stores. The big advantage of shopping in a department store is that you can find anything you need on the spot, without having to wander in too many places when you need or want a whole bunch of fashion items – apparel, shoes, handbags, accessories, beauty products, fragrances, as well as children’s wear, and even furniture or houseware. In Toronto there are high-class department stores (with high prices, of course, like Holt Renfrew), and mid-class department stores, with more affordable prices. I would like to introduce you to some of the mid-class department stores in Toronto (and Canada) where you can have a great shopping experience.

The Bay. This is one of the symbols of Canada, as it’s a legendary Canadian company which dates back from the 17th century. Yes, it’s been there for that long. It is also known as The Hudson Bay Company, or HBC. Founded in 1670 by Charles II, the company has played a vital role in Canadian commerce and in building Canada as a nation. The Bay is the most elegant among the mid-class department stores in Canada , with an extensive offer able to satisfy even the most demanding customers. There is a The Bay store in almost any major mall in Toronto. The fashions at The Bay are a long list of sound names in the Canadian and international fashion industry – Anne Klein, Armani, BCBG, Burberry, Calvin Klein, Coach, David Dixon, Diesel, Donna Karan, Esprit, Fossil, Guess, Halston, Jessica Simpson, Kenneth Cole, Ralph Lauren, Levi’s, Marc Jacobs, Mexx, Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta, Swatch, Triumph, and many others. Among other services, gift registry services are also available at The Bay. How can one not love shopping at The Bay when there is such a rich offer, plenty to choose from? As for me, I absolutely love The Bay, and I shop there as often as I can.

Sears. Most of you are probably very familiar with this department store chain, as it exists not only in Canada , but also in USA , with hundreds of stores on both sides of the border. The prices at Sears are even more affordable than those at The Bay. I go there shopping quite often as well, and what I love the most about shopping at Sears is children’s apparel, when I buy new clothes and toys for my son, or when I buy gifts for my friends’ children. Some of the brands available at Sears are Guess, Steve Madden, Calvin Klein, Point Zero, Levi’s, Kenneth Cole, Reebok, Nike, and others.

Zellers. It’s another Canadian department store chain, with very friendly prices. Most frequently I buy from Zellers beauty products or books. Zellers is actually related to The Bay, and it is a part of The Hudson Bay Company family. You will find here women’s, men’s and children’s fashions, accessories, health and beauty products, electronics, food, furniture, home décor and houseware, outdoor products, sporting goods, toys, and a lot more.
