Collecting Vintage Metal Tins

Unfortunately for my husband, over the years I have collected various items. All kinds of Dishes, Animals, Metal Tins, Christmas Ornaments, Miniature Ceramic Houses, Snow Villages, and the various Cactus and houseplants. Much to his dismay, he is left with having to help me house my different collections. This has proven quite difficult since we have had to move three different times during our marriage and of course the collections had to be moved too.

We finally bought a china cabinet to house all the Dishes which include the Fire King, Anchor Hocking, and Blue Willow collection. The cactus and houseplants have over the years bit the dust from all the moves, the survivors are displayed proudly in the living room. The Christmas Ornaments are now packed carefully in Christmas colored coordinated plastic totes in the attic waiting to be pulled out for the next holiday. The miniature ceramic houses are the most unlucky of all the collections. Having nowhere to house them; they are packed in boxes and stored in the attic currently. The animals are another story, as animals like husbands age, they eventually leave, and this has been the hardest part of parting.

My metal tin collection is another story all together. The collection has gotten so extensive that my daughter and son have ended up with part of the collection, whether by choice or necessity. In the attic currently stored in at least three clear plastic totes is the bulk of the collection. If you haven’t figured it out yet, I am a collector, or as my husband prefers to call me, a pack rat. I personally prefer the term Vintage Rescuer.

Deciding to do some research into tin collecting, I stumbled upon several sites that either sell, describe or display collections of metal tin ware. This type of collection is probably the least tapped resource out there. Most people collect metal signs, or vintage spice containers. I on the other hand collect it all. Listed Below are a few sites that were uncovered in the search.

Attic shoppe.com display a diverse collection of Vintage Metalware, I have one of the metal Irons they display on their site. Visit them to check it out.

Vintage and Antique Metalware is turning out to be very popular in my searching. My Grannys Attic Antiques.com is another site that displays and sells various pieces of Metalware.

A website that is more in line with my collecting is Antique Bottle Trader.com. The sell and describe many tins on their site.

Antique Mystique.com has to be the best site found so far. Many of the tins/containers located on the site are in my own collection. My mother still has and uses the Clabber Girl tin for her baking power.

If you are into Vintage Tin Signs collecting then hub pages.com is the place for you. They display a very extensive collection along with descriptions and places to purchase a few.

E How.com contains an article titled How to Collect Vintage Spice Tins. Overall a good article, if that’s all you are interested in collecting. Luckily the page contains various other links to how to articles concerning Metal collecting.

Vintage depot.com is a website that I ran across yesterday in doing my searching and I was so taken with it that it actually inspired me to write about tic collecting. View their great site and enjoy just like I did all they have to offer. Happy collecting!
