Cloth Tape Measure Home Accents

There are many different types of people who might appreciate a tape measure as a home accent. In a child’s room, a tape measure – or more than one – can be so appropriate. Throughout the rest of the house, a tape measure can be a cute accent for someone who teaches math, a person who loves geometry, or someone who sews. For whatever reason, you’ll appreciate how much fun you can have with something as ordinary as a tape measure, when you use it as a home decorator piece.

When you cut the metal ends off of a cloth tape measure you can use it as an decorator piece in a child’s room. Make a wall growth chart by just gluing the tape measure to a background paper, like a vertical poster. Hang it on the wall and mark milestones for your child’s growth.

A tape measure can easily be glued onto another object. Attach one around the bottom of a lampshade, around the perimeter of a mirror, or onto another existing piece in your home. Glue one to the front of a craft table, or a sewing table, and not only is it a cute look, but the measurements can be helpful as you craft or sew.

Glue a tape measure to paper and use it as a border around the room. It’s probably necessary to use several tape measures – on paper – to create an entire border. You can do something similar to change the look – and add a cute element – to a baseboard.

Use a Styrofoam ball, along with a cloth tape measure, to create a decorative ball. You can purchase a decorative ball wrapped in anything from fabric to yarn, but the tape measure ball is so much more unique. Just remove the metal ends on the tape measure and begin wrapping it, this way and that, all over the ball. Use a bit of hot glue, where necessary, to secure it.

Cut five, same-size pieces of a tape measure to make a flower that can be used nearly anywhere in the house. Take each piece, and bring its ends together, to form a band. Press the band together, in the middle, to flatten it; use a dot of hot glue to secure it. Make five of the bands – all flattened in the middle, and stack them to form the flower. Lay one band, vertically, in front of you. Make an “X” from two of the bands, and glue them to the first one. Make a second “X”, and glue it onto the stack, turning the second “X” in a different manner than the first one. Glue a jewel or other embellishment to the center of the flower. Make a big flower for a large mirror, or a tiny, tape measure flower to glue onto a coaster. You’ll find lots of ways to use the unusual flower.

Reusing a tape measure is fun when you incorporate it into your home decorating. Look around to discover other ways to get that old, cloth tape measure out of the drawer, and put it to good use.
