Clever Uses for Empty Wine Bottles

We all know the importance of reusing recyclable materials in our homes. In fact, it’s hip to be environmentally conscious! Many of the most popular home improvement trends revolve around recycled and/or eco-friendly materials. Consumers are repurposing virtually everything they come in contact with, including glass bottles. In particular, wine bottles. With their beautiful shapes, sleek curves, and array of colors, wine bottles can be used for many purposes both in and out of the home. Here are a few of our favorite uses for empty wine bottles.

Wine bottle lamp

An empty wine bottle is very similar in size and shape to a lamp base. Thus, if you want to add a unique touch to your home, make a wine bottle lamp. For a sturdy lamp, use a wide jug-style bottle. For a modern lamp, choose a slender curvy bottle – It’s up to you! Select a color and style that will match both your existing décor and the shade that it will be paired up with. Yahoo! Lifestyle Expert Crystal Ray provides the details on How to Make a Wine Bottle Lamp.

Garden edging

Wine bottles can be used as colorful garden edging around flowerbeds. Loosen the soil and press a wine bottle deep into the ground. You’ll want just a few inches of the bottom of the bottle showing. Place the next bottle so that it is just a hair’s length away from the first. Continue this process until your garden edging is complete. For safety reasons, don’t use glass bottles in an area where children will be playing or in a spot where heavy garden equipment will be used.

Oil decanter

You’ve seen those pricey bottles of flavored oils in the store, but have likely been put off by the price. Make your own with clear wine bottles. Add your favorite spices (the more colorful the better) and top off the bottle with a pouring nozzle. The nozzle will fit perfectly into a standard wine bottle. These decanters can also be used to dispense homemade beverages, vinegar, and even soap.

Wine bottle hummingbird feeder

Feed those hummingbirds in style with a homemade hummingbird feeder! Thoroughly wash and dry an empty bottle. Then, wrap copper wire around the neck until you reach the base. Wind the wire into a hanger for support. Insert a feeding tube with bottle stopper attachment (buy it here) into the bottle and hang.

Candle holders

Remove the top of a wine bottle with a glass cutter and you’ll have an instant candle holder. Fill the bottom of the bottle with sand or decorative rocks to hold the candle in place. Place several of these candle holders on a long table to add a touch of warmth, or just one to the center of a small table for a romantic feel.

Don’t forget to reuse those corks, too! Collect several hundred to make 3-D works of art, corkboards, cork coasters, and much more.
