Ohio’s police blotter is a myriad of both felonies and minor crimes today. Cuyahoga County doctor is arrested for murdering his wife. Rockford area man takes a puts his Louisville Slugger to good use against intruder.
Rockford, Ohio
A northwestern Ohio resident, from the Rockford area, startled would be intruders. Homeowner, Gino Fisher was prepared when two criminals appeared at his home to rob him, again. Fisher, Louisville Slugger baseball bat in hand, met the men as they attempted to break in to his home. After the initial shock experienced by the two men, they quickly ran to their waiting, Fisher in tow. The homeowner must have displayed the speed and skill of Mickey Mantle during the incident. Fisher took the getaway van keys, and waited for law enforcement arrived. The suspects are currently being held in the local jail awaiting their day in court.
Cleveland, Ohio
An unusual murder case involving a doctor accused of using cyanide to kill his wife, took another odd twist this week. Yazeed Essa, 40, was arrested in 2006 as he tried to clear customs in Cyprus. Essa has been fighting extradition since arriving in Beirut. Due to Barack Obama winning the Presidency, he has since decided to end his extradition battle.
After his wife, Rosemarie, 38, lost consciousness in her vehicle and died approximately five miles from their home in the Gates Mills suburb of Cleveland. The Cuyahoga County Coroner concluded the woman has ingested a cyanide pill. It is the conclusion of the prosecutor in the case, that Essa passed off the deadly tablet as a common calcium pill, and gave it to his wife. The suspected murdered was a former staff physician from the Akron General Hospital.
Essa reportedly explained to law enforcement officials and the media why he is now prepared to stand trial in the United States. Essa stated that he feels Obama’s win shows America is now ready, and tolerant enough for an Arab-American to receive a fair trial.
The accused murderer was returned to Cuyahoga County late last week. Essa was arraigned via a video conference from the county jail. The Honorable Judge Joan Synenberg placed Essa under a $75 million bond. Should Essa be convicted for murdering his wife, he faces a maximum life sentence. The possibility of parole could be available after serving 20 years of the sentence. Essa’s attorney, Steven Bradley reportedly informed the court his client’s intent to remain in custody until trial.
A school bus driver didn’t realize she hit a boy until she and a parent later noticed a bicycle hanging from the bus. Cheryl Hills has been a school bus driver for nearly twenty years, and has been placed on paid leave pending the completion of the case.
Cleveland Police officers arrested Hill after hitting a 14-year-old boy who was riding his bicycle to school. The bus driver reportedly to law enforcement officers she thought she had hit a pothole while traveling on her regular route. The boy was listed in critical condition after being transported to the Metro Health Medical Center. Injuries reportedly include two broken lefts, a punctured lung, and other minor injuries.
