Cheap Summer Vacation in Houston, Texas

No matter what city you decide to visit in Texas, one of the key things you need to do in order to save money, is to look for a cheaper hotel. In order to do this, make sure you do not stay in a typical named hotel that is obviously going to cost a lot of money per night. Staying in places like Sheratons and Hyatts is going to guarantee a high price. The main small chains such as LaQuinta and Best Western can be great money savers, as they are usually well worth the price since they usually have a mini fridge, a microwave, and a television, if not more. However, it is even better if you can find a small local hotel as they will often have a good deal for a room rate and be well worth what you pay.

From now on, this article is going to focus on things to do in Houston in order to have a cheap vacation.

At times, there are free things to do in Houston.

The Children’s Museum of Houston has free admission every Thursday from 5pm to 8pm.

Visit Hermann park in order to see a free concert or play and feel free to pack a picnic lunch!

Go to the Houston Aboretum in order to see native plants and animals as there is never a fee to enter! Just make sure to visit between 7 a.m. And 7 p.m. and if you can afford it, a donation is nice to keep the place running! If you want to visit the shop, make sure that you are there sometime between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

On Thursdays, admission to Houston’s Museum of Fine Arts is free.

Then, admission to the Holocaust Museum is always free. They only ask for donations.

Of course, not everybody is thrilled with doing things that are free. Things can still be done quite cheaply. Some people may be interested in things that they cannot visit when they are free, or they may be interested in things such as NASA.

While some Houston attractions are not included, it is advised to get a Houston City Pass. This will give savings of about $30 per person for each city pass that is bought. The tickets are good for nine (9) days from the time the first one is used.

The Houston City Pass includes six (6) tickets and they are as follows:

Space Center Houston

Downtown Aquarium

Houston Museum of Natural Science

Houston Zoo

Museum of Fine Arts or The Children’s Museum of Houston

George Ranch Historical Park or The Health Museum

Also included in the City Pass is a coupon for a free appetizer and preferential seating at any Landry’s restaurant located in Houston – and there are 33 of them, making for a wide choice!

Then, there are many suggestions of restaurants and off beat places to visit and the best times to visit, as well as maps and transportation information.
