Capone’s Dinner & Show in Orlando, Florida

Most of the older dinner shows have closed down in the Kissimmee/Orlando area, but Capone’s Dinner & Show is still there after 15 years. The tourists love it because they can eat and drink as much as they like for $25 a person. It costs more than that for a good meal and a glass of wine in many of the area restaurants.

We first found out about Copone’s by looking at all the leaflets in the lobbies of hotels and restaurants giving a 50% off regular price for every adult in your party – no limit. Even children are buy one & get one free from 4 -12 years old. 3 and under free.

We then phoned the number listed on the front of the leaflet. It states: an entertaining recorded preview. 1-407-397-2378.

Here you will be greeted by a couple of the cast members. You can stay on the line and listen to what will be in store for you, or check on the menu, and of course, what they want you to do is book. I booked via the telephone using a credit card.

Upon our arrival.

We parked in front of the building and headed to the side door. Here a line was forming. We were wondering why they were not letting us in. Then someone walked up behind us. Yes, it was Detective Marvel. He was there to get the crowd motivated. He started telling silly jokes and doing tricks. The kids really lapped it up, and all us adults, joined in too.

We then started moving up the line. Just before entering the dinner theater itself we were given a password. No, I am not at liberty to tell you. My lips are sealed. We knocked 3 times and gave the password. Wow, we got in.

Next is the photo taking session. This is how to get the extra dollars from the tourists. You have a sign to hold chest high which has on it “FBI-CHICAGO PD H105. These are our jailbird pictures that are sitting on top of the television right now.

So what happened?

We were escorted to our table, up a staircase, and on a balcony. All the tables were great to view the show. I would suggest the ground floor for anyone not as agile as myself. We had to go up and down the stairs to the buffet.

Our server was a ‘mobster’. He was handsome and had that Chicago drawl. What would we like to drink? No he wasn’t that polite I can tell you, but that was all part of the act. Beer, Sangria, Al’s rumrunners, soda, iced tea, or coffee. Make up your mind. I figured Len was drinking diet soda; so bring on those rumrunners.

Down to the buffet.

Pasta salad.
Garden salad.
Baked ziti.
Spaghetti.
Lasagna.
Sausage with peppers and onions.
Baked ham.
Baked chicken.
Veggies.
Mashed potato.
and garlic bread.

The food was good. Not great probably a 3 and a half out of 5, but after a couple of rumrunners nobody really cared. You got your own food, so were able to take as much as you wanted.

The show.

We headed back to 1931 and to Miss Jewel’s gangland review, known as ‘The World’s Greatest Cabaret and Speakeasy’.

We the audience joined in the show. We had come as part of the ‘Annual reunion of the Italian Opera Lovers Association’. Well this was the time of prohibition so we had to have a cover.

The cast consisted of, Miss Jewel, Bunny June, Gambler, Fingers Salvatorio, Mobster, Harry the Lip, that Renegade Copper, and of course Robert T. Marvel, our screwy detective. Our servers disappeared from time to time to join in as the Guys and Gals of Capone’s.

We had lots of singing, dancing, and corny jokes from the stage and also from our ‘gangster’ server. The more he insulted us, the better the evening got. At one stage he even pulled his gun out. Len had to do the tourist thing, and take a photograph of it. That is, the gangster, his gun, and me.

We were served dessert at the table. A brownie. I ate mine, but with Len being a diabetic, he gave it a miss.

This is a cute evening out and is very worthwhile if you use the coupon.

I would like to quote a paragraph from their website: www.alcapones.com.

‘Don’t be surprised if you wind up eating with a gangster or two, and we apologize in advance if the “operation” should get raided by the “Feds” on the night of your particular visit. Most Joes and their Dames find it worth taking the risk to experience our Broadway-Style Production. A Heartwarming Musical Tale packed with Romance, Comedy and Intrigue, “Miss Jewel’s World Famous Gangland Revue” is sure to Delight everyone from 3 to 93!

Don’t expect too much and you will certainly come away happy.

Capones’s Dinner & Show is located at 4740 West Highway 192, Kissimmee, Florida. As well as the recorded message number, I also found a toll free one. 1-800-220-8428.

Directions.

From Interstate 4, exit 27, head south to 192. Take a left and it is approximately three quarters of a mile on the right.

If you exit on 25A, travel east on 192 for five miles. Again it is on the right.

Always phone for dinner/show times because in the ‘off season’ they may only have one show a night instead of two.

The first time was a few years ago but we took Len’s sister and her husband when they were over from England and they really loved it. It was the same cast, and show, with different actors and actresses. They were not driving so they had a fantastic night and couldn’t believe it cost them 12 pounds 50 pence each. What a bargain!
