Candle Color Meanings

Color Meanings, Spiritual Healing

When burning candles in spiritual practice, color symbolizes intention. What do the different colors of candles mean?

Black: Although most sources agree on the meaning of colors in candles, there are two schools of thoughts on black candles. One is that black symbolizes revenge, retribution, and communicating with the spirits of the dead; and should be used with great caution. The other is that black candles absorb and destroy negative energies, and are good for banishing rituals.

Blue: In general, a blue candle is used for healing, health and happiness, devotion, and spiritual development. Use shades of blue candles when you’re seeking tranquility, forgiveness, peace, truth, harmony, and understanding. Light blue opens inspiration, blessings in the home, and sexual fidelity. Deep blue is used for loyalty, successful group endeavors, and work situations.

Brown: Brown brings serenity and peace, and is used for grounding. A brown candle also attracts money during financial crisis.

Gold: A gold candle symbolizes money, fortune, success, and wealth. Gold is a good color to use to promote peace within a group and to bring good luck.

Green: Green is the universal color of money, and it’s no different with candles. A green candle is used to attract money, success, and prosperity of a material nature. Green also promotes balance and harmony, acts as a protector, and symbolizes renewal.

Magenta: Magenta is best described as hot pink, and literally means “magic color”. When you use a magenta candle with a candle of another color, the magenta speeds up or intensifies the intention. If you need quick, positive changes, add a magenta candle to your practice.

Orange: Enthusiasm, fun, and vitality are all symbolized by an orange candle. The color orange also attracts good people, so use orange when you’re looking for friendship.

Pink: A pink candle signifies emotional love, friendship, and happiness. Pink the color to use for tenderness, spiritual healing, honor, and caring. However, keep in mind that a pink candle can also represent romance, affection, and sensual pleasure.

Purple: Purple, known as the spiritual shield, is used for protection. It wards off evil and promotes spiritual healing. A purple candle is also good when there’s a higher need for wisdom and psychic awareness, as it aids in getting in touch with your own intuition and spirituality. A lavender (light purple) candle has qualities that are very similar to purple. In addition to opening understanding of the Higher-Self, lavender is calming.

Red: Not surprisingly, red is the color of love, passion, and lust. So if your intention is anything in that realm- like magnetism, desire, or fertility- light a red candle. In addition to the romantic aspect, red means courage, strength, good health, energy, and action. Red is also used for protection, motivation and willpower. Also, if you need your luck to change for the better, light a red candle.

Silver: A silver candle removes evil forces and neutralizes and stabilizes your environment. The color silver also aids in psychic development.

Turquoise: A turquoise candle dispels evil influences and assists in psychic development. Turquoise is calming, peaceful, gentle, and non-threatening. Light a turquoise candle for meditation when you seek ultimate healing, change, and awareness.
