Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free Flour Review

Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free Flour

Continuing our gluten free product reveiws, we will now take a look at gluten free flour. There are not a lot of choices on the super market shelf when it comes to gluten free flours, especially for those of us who live in a small mountain town. I have tried two so far though. One I reviewed a few months back, and you can read my article on that titled, Nuffins Bakery: Gluten Free Mixes, Flour and More, here on AC. Nuffins Bakery has some very yummy mixes!

The other gluten free flour I have used is, Bob’s Gluten Free Flour. This flour is very tasty. It has a taste similar to that of Falafel If you have never eaten Falafel, it is a middle east fast food eaten in pita bread with lettuce, tomatoe, etc. Anything you would put on a sandwich, you can put on a Falafel. They are yummy, and this flour has the same flavor as the Falafel’s do.

Bob’s Gluten Free Flour is fairly expensive. I buy mine at Safeway, and it cost $4.11 for a small 22 ounce bag! There are great recipes on the back of the package that sound really good! You can also visit them online at, Bob’s Red Mill

I have not made any breads, cakes, or cookies with it yet. I have however made pancakes, and they are simply delicious! I also use Bob’s flour for thickening sauces, egg noodles, and gravy with great success. For making breads, and cakes, and such, you need to mix different types of glutem free flours to get the right consistancey, and texture. There is a great article about mixing gluten free flours on AC entiled, “Gluten Free Living: Wheat Flour Alternatives Putting Together a Great Flour Mix”, by: Eisla Sebastian Check it out for some helpful pointers.

I did not mix any other flours in when I made my egg noodles, and the noodles came out very nice. In fact my husband and children said they were some of the best noodles I had made yet! They were very light, and fluffy, even though I had to make them on the thick side to keep them from falling apart. I have to agree with the family too, they were really good noodles!

If you have food allergies, and have to eat gluten free, then you’ll enjoy, Bob’s Gluten Free Flour!
