Black Hair Dye Woes

So you dyed your hair black, and now you want to change it. Maybe you made a mistake and you need to fix it. Maybe you like your black hair, but it just time for a change. Either way you have your work cut out for you. Once you have dyed your hair black , it takes a lot of work to lift that color out. There are few routes you can go to make the change. What you do is dependent on how quickly you need the change made.

One mistake people make is that they think if they get a brown or a red dye they can just dye over the black. The new hair color does not have enough power to lift the black dye out. If you go that route you will most likely just end up with a bigger mess to correct.

One option is to use color remover. You can buy color remover any where you buy hair dye. This product removes the dye from your hair and usually leaves it an orange color. From there you can dye your hair again to another color. Both of these processes together may be rough on your hair, but the results are well worth it. This is an immediate fix. Choose your new color carefully. Your hair will be pretty fried after both processes. If you do not like the new color, you will be stuck with it until your hair can recover. Well that is unless you want to be bald.

If you are more patient, you can go with an alternative method. You can start by adding highlights to your hair. Remember, the bleach will lift the dye from your hair, but it may not totally remove the color on the first try. You may have to do this in phases. The first time around may lighten it slightly. After a few weeks, then you can do another round of highlights. If you go this route, remember to apply the highlight solution evenly throughout the strand being highlighted. Also, keep an eye on your progress. The bleach might be working quicker on some portions of your hair than others. You do not want to be splotchy. Don’t go over board with the highlights. Make sure the dyes is evenly distributed throughout your hair. If you are unsure if you can do this by yourself, be sure to ask a friend to help. Another set of hands and eyes is always helpful.

In my case I went the highlight route. The initial round of highlights went well. It lightened my overall look. The rest of the black with continue to grow out and fade, and additional highlights will take care of the rest. I have saved my hair some wear and tear and I am happy with the results. I loved my black hair, but changes need to be made for my career plans.

Dyed black hair can be beautiful, but when it doesn’t look right or a change is needed, a person needs to have options. The quick method is hard on your hair, while the gentler method may take much longer. In the end you have to choose which method is right for you.
