Biography of Nickelback

You may recognize the styles of Nickelback as soon as you hear lead singer, Chad Kroeger’s voice. It has a hard rock raspiness to it. Chad helped form Nickelback in 1995 with the help of Mike Kroeger (his brother) and Ryan Vikedal. The band originates from Hanna, Alberta, Canada.

Current members of Nickelback include Chad Kroeger, vocals, rhythm guitar, Ryan Peake, lead guitar, back up vocals, Mike Kroeger, bass guitar, and Daneil Adair, drums, percussion and back up vocals. One of the former members of Nickelback included Chad and Mike’s cousin Brandon Kroeger. Ryan Vikedal, was also a former member of Nickelback. Both of them played on drums. Nickelback has released six albums since 1996 starting with their demo album, Hersher.

Their second album, Curb, was released in 1996 as well, then re-released on June 25th of 2002. The State has a release date in 200 of March 7th. Silver Side Up was Nickelbacks fourth album. It was released on September 11, 2001. The morning of the release, they were on their tour bus less than ten miles away from the crash of United Airlines Flight 93. On September 23, 2003 The Long Road was released followed by All the Right Reasons in October of 2005. The band has also been nominated for four Grammy Awards. All were in the genre of rock beginning in 2003 with Record of the Year.

In 2004, they were nominated for Best Rock Song for “Someday” as well as for Best Rock Album for The Long Road. Nickelback was also nominated in 2005 for Best Hard Rock Performance. Grammy nominations aren’t the only notable success for Nickelback. The band has also had songs in major motion pictures over the years. Who could forget Spider-Man? They have also been heard in Daredevil, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, as well as The Punisher and many others along the years. All the Right Reasons, their latest release has sold over 5.5 million albums worldwide and over 3.9 million albums in the United States alone!

The band mostly comes from San Francisco, California, but they are currently based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Cancon, the Canadian low requiring Canadian radio station to play a certain percentage of music to be from Canadian artists, helped skyrocket Nickelback’s career. When “How You Remind Me” was released in 2001, Nickelback was placed in the spotlight. In 2002, that song became the most played single of the year. This revved up the band’s career even further, giving them a superstar quality and status. On every album since, Nickelback has had multi format smash hits not to mention making the Top 100 many times.

Including songs that have stayed at number one for over five weeks in a row. Many people classify Nickelback’s sound as a post-grunge feel or hard rock. I feel that it leans more heavily on the hard rock feel of things. Nickelback was the second Canadian band to reach the top of the Billboard Hot 100 as well as the Canadian Singles Charts at the same time. The album that helped them do this was Silver Side Up. Nickelback is an amazing band with many accomplishments and awards.
