Best Walking Trails in San Jose, CA

You may know your way to San Jose, but do you know the trails to walk in San Jose? Sidewalks are the easy answer. How about some of these beautiful and relaxing walking trails?

1. Coyote Creek Trail

From Start to Finish: The trail starts ay Highway 237 near Levee Road and ends at Metcalf Park.

Length: 18.2 miles

Walking Conditions: Most of the trail is paved, but about a 1.4-mile section is gravel and another 0.5-mile section is under construction.

Connected Parks: Stonegate Park, Lonebluff Park, Hellyer County Park, Shady Oaks Park and Metcalf Park.

What you will see: Be ready to feast your eyes on beautiful hillsides, creeks and natural landscapes. There are also some benches along the way and 2 emergency call boxes on the trail.

2. Los Alamitos Creek Trail

From Start to Finish: The trail starts at Almaden Lake Park and ends at McKean Road.

Length: 4.7 miles

Walking Conditions: The whole trail is paved.

Connected Parks: Almaden Lake Park, Pfeiffer Park, Graystone Park, and Carrabelle Park

What you will see: Enjoy the view of creek beds and wild flowers as you travel through the trail and over a bridge. There is also a picnic area off the trail and 6 emergency call boxes.

3. Saratoga Creek Trail

From Start to Finish: The trail starts at Lawrence Expressway & Bollinger and ends at Lawrence Expressway & English

Length: 0.8 miles

Walking Conditions: The trail is paved with gravel.

Connected Park: Murdock Park

What you will see: While it may not be too serene due to its close proximity to a busy expressway, the trail offers a view of the beautiful Saratoga Creek. There are also two bridges, trashcans and benches along the trail.

4. Silver Creek Valley Trail

From Start to Finish: This trail has several sections. One section goes from Yerba Buena & Silver Creek to The Ranch Golf Course. From there, you can walk on the street sidewalk until the next section, which starts at Yerba Buena & Hassler Parkway. This segment breaks off into two segments at Farnsworth. The first segment ends at Farsworth & San Felipe. The second segment ends at Silver Creek Valley & Hellyer.

Length: 4.0 miles

Walking Conditions: The trail is paved.

Connected Park: Silver Creek Linear Park

What you will see: You can expect to see lots of expensive homes and beautiful hillsides. Some of the trail has a steep grade, so be aware of this when planning your walk. This trail passes by a golf course, so also beware of any flying golf balls!

Please check the websites for these trails before your walk, as the trails may be closed for maintenance or construction.

If you need wheelchair access, are going to be using skates, a bike or a scooter, or are going to be pushing a stroller, plan ahead with the Santa Clara County Healthy Trails site.
