From Tribal Competitions to Pow-wows to the Devotional and lights out, the kids are thrown into a full day of learning, fun, and interaction with kids of all races. Each camper is assigned to one of teo “tribes” and they stay in these “tribes” for daily competition with each other. It’s fun, they learn activities skills, and they also learn fair play and the rules of competition. They stress “maximum effort, maximun Enthusiasm, and maximun sportsmanship.” This character-building aspect of Camp Ozark is central to everything they do. Harding University has been running Camp Tahkodah for years in the tradition of Christian fellowship and teaching living and playing in a fun environment. The emphasis here is definitely on religious values, while blending the bible instruction with activities that will prepare kids for mature interraction with others. Skills in canoeing and swimming and horseback riding–all sorts of team and individual sports–add to the beautiful setting in the Ozarks near Searcy, AR. There are bible classes, hymn-singing, and inspirational devotionals at night to stress the closeness to God and inspire true Christian values. This camp is not for everyone, but it is a wholesome environment for those who want their kids to learn more about the Bible and its teachings in a fun, georgeous environment. They do all sorts of fun things, from fishing to riflery range, so many of the skills taught here will be lifelong pleasures. Camp Winnamocka Website Camp Winnamocka is the epitome of the movie style summer camp, complete with Indian themes, a Huck Finn playfulness, and just lots of good healthy fun mixed with down-home “learnin’.” These folks focus on teaching kids teamwork, trust, and self-confidence in a heavenly setting on 22 acres on the Caddo River in Arkadelphia, AR, just a short way from Little Rock and Hot Springs. There’s a jungle hut, a swinging bridge and Blue Lagoon where all kids can experience the magic of their imaginations and the glee of pretend worlds. There are treasure hunts, and pretend Fort defence ambushes. Lake and pool swims, and pow-wow assemblies are all part of this adventure. This camp stresses fun over everything, and channels it through group activities that are learning experiences in themselves.
