Best Burger Restaurants in Atlanta

While the Varsity may be Atlanta’s iconic landmark restaurant for burgers and fries, it is not the best place in Atlanta to grab a hamburger (a chili dog, maybe, but not a thick juicy hamburger). There are a handful of hidden gems in and around the city that offer hamburgers that will change your definition of a good burger forever.

Try one of these local spots to taste a thick, juicy hamburger, and don’t forget the side of fries (chili cheese fries optional).

Absolute best burger in Atlanta at Grindhouse

Grindhouse Killer Burgers is a gritty, laid back burger joint tucked away in the Sweet Auburn Curb Market.

When you visit Grindhouse you will have found one of Atlanta’s hidden treasures in the burger market. Get your burger anyway you like it. Choose from an amazing variety of toppings. You can literally have your hamburger anyway you like. You wouldn’t expect such an eclectic selection of toppings from such a small, old burger restaurant.

Burgers are cooked fresh to order, and they are mouth watering. Fresh cut and fresh cooked fries complement your burger, or order a side of onion rings that will lure you back to the Grindhouse more often.

Don’t expect a cosmopolitan atmosphere. Grindhouse Killer Burgers is a simple place. What you can expect is best hamburger in Atlanta.

Vortex Bar & Grill Serves up a mean burger and fries

First, let me explain that there are two Vortex locations in the downtown Atlanta area. One is a cosmopolitan bar with three levels and modern décor, located in Midtown. The other is a shabby bar in little five points. You are looking for the shabby little bar if you really want one of the best hamburgers in town.

The Vortex serves up a half pound 100% sirloin burger chargrilled to perfection. It makes my mouth water just thinking about it. In addition to 20 different creative, authentic sirloin burgers on the menu, the Vortex invites you to create your own.

It really doesn’t matter what you put on a hamburger at The Vortex. I could eat one naked (the burger naked, not me) because the meat is top choice, tender, and juicy.

Holeman and Finch Public House Restaurant, Atlanta

Relax in a gathering place, arranged for conversation and communion around your meal and enjoy any of Holeman and Finch’s great Southern menu items. If you are looking for another scrumptious hamburger in Atlanta, however, stop in at Holeman and Finch Public House before ten. At 9:30 the place becomes packed as people hope to get their turn at one of the 24 double patty cheeseburgers that will go on sale that night. Get their early to claim a good spot, because these burgers can sell out in minutes, sometimes seconds.

Holeman and Finch say the scarce number of hamburgers is no gimmick, although some are skeptical. Still, people flock out to be the one to snatch a succulent burger hot off the grill with homemade French fries. The restaurateurs declare that the only appropriate way to pay tribute to the great American burger is to take the time to cook it just right, and that is what they do every night. That is also the reason they serve so few.

It may take a couple of tries to get your hands on one of Atlanta’s favorite burgers at an iconic stop, but it will be well worth the patience once you sink your teeth into a delightful burger.

Atlanta, GA 30309
Hours: Monday-Sat 5:30pm to 1:30 am; Sunday 11:30am to 3pm
