Beaded Jewelry Project – Native American Bone Bead Necklace

This bone bead necklace is reminiscent of Native American jewelry in a truly modern style. By combining long bone beads with turquoise seed beads, you have a beautiful ethnic look. Follow the directions below to make your own beaded jewelry project.

Materials Needed for the Bone Bead Necklace

1. Nine long bone beads – often called pipe beads

2. Turquoise colored opaque seed beads

3. Black opaque seed beads

4. Small black round wooden beads

5. Beading needle and thread

6. Your choice of necklace clasps

Making the Bone Bead Necklace Beaded Jewelry Project

Start by threading almost ten feet of beading thread or monofilament onto your beading needle. Then, attach one end of the thread to a part of your necklace clasp jewelry finding. Then you are ready to begin stringing the beads.

Thread two turquoise seed beads, one black seed bead, and two more turquoise beads onto the needle. Then thread on one of the slightly larger wooden beads. Repeat this pattern twelve times.

Then, string on two turquoise, one black seed bead, two turquoise, and another round wooden bead. Put one of the long bone pipe beads on next. Another black wood bead and one turquoise seed bead come at the end of the pipe bead. Loop your thread around the turquoise seed bead and back up through the wooden and pipe beads.

Continue on beading the necklace with the two turquoise, one black, two turquoise pattern. Follow the same directions for attaching the pipe beads for all nine of the long bone beads.

When the bone beads are used up, go back to the original bead stringing patter: two turquoise, one black, and two more turquoise seed beads. Then, use one of the black wooden beads before returning to the seed bead pattern. Continue this until the necklace is even on both sides.

Attach the other side of the necklace clasp securely with the thread. Then, begin with the seed bead pattern once more. Thread two turquoise, one black, and two turquoise seed beads onto your needle.

Then, instead of adding another black wooden bead, push the needle through the one that is already there. Continue this pattern all the way around the necklace back to the other side of the clasp.

This beaded jewelry project gives you a Native American style bone bead necklace. It has the traditional turquoise and black colors and attractive bone pipe beads hanging down in the front.
