Battle of the Can Openers

We all know the old can openers leave rough edges so that you can cut your fingers and lets not forget the metal dust they may leave in your food. Yuck! People spend an average of seven hours or more in the kitchen. With all that time in the kitchen, I know I want tools that will cut my time in half and not cut my fingers. The hottest tool today is a can opener that does not leave rough edges.

Ease
The One Touch can opener and Good Cook can opener are easy to use. You simply latch the can openers onto the can and off you go. The One Touch is an electric can opener that moves around the top of the can. The Good Cook can opener is a manual can opener that requires you to twist the hand to open a can. It is also easy to use. You simply latch the can opener onto the can, squeeze the handle together and turn the knob on the handle

Comfort
The one Touch can opener and Good Cook Can opener are comfortable to use. The One Touch can opener is better for people with arthritis because it has a wide base and does not require turning any mechanism to open the can.

Though I don’t see any difference in comfort with someone who does not have arthritis. Yes, One Touch may be electric and does all the work itself but the Good Cook can opener has a wide handle. This wide handle offers the ability to open cans without much effort.

Cost
You can purchase a One Touch Can opener for $19.95 through several websites and at the “As you see on T.V. stores”. The Good Cook can opener can be purchased at a local grocery stores for $15.99

The One Touch Can actually ends up costing you more because you have to then purchase batteries for the item and they run out quickly. So the One Touch can opener ends up costing $22.95 while you can obtain a manual one that is $7 cheaper.

Design
Both the One Touch can opener and the Good Cook can opener are ergonomically designed. If you are a person that has small hands, arthritis, and no hand strength, then both are built for you. The only difference is that the Good Cook is dishwasher safe.
The One Touch can opener and the Good Cook can opener both open cans at the same speed. So one is not faster than the other.

Complaints
Though I haven’t had any complaints about the One Touch can opener, I am expecting it to break down on me. Several complaints have been file that the One Touch can opener has tipped cans over while in the process of openings them. Other complaints are the fact that the One Touch becomes lodged on its track and then runs the batteries out. Customers have had batteries run out while cans were being open. They then would have to tear the can opener apart to dislodge it from the can.

I was unable to find any complaints about Good Cook can openers. They have had complaints abut their cooking utensils but that’s a whole different review.

I’m not surprise that Good Cook has out beat One Touch when comparing can openers. I have had a Good Cook side cut can opener for six months. I have had no problems with it becoming lodged on the can that I was trying to open. I personally have a small amount of arthritis in my hands; the Good Cook is easy to use. The handle is large enough so that I do not have to use a lot of hand pressure to open cans.

I also like the fact that even though the Good Cook can opener is mechanical, the product still leaves a smooth edge on all the cans that I open. Anyone who has cut their finger on a can and then went to the hospital for shots will love this. There is no worry about cutting your fingers ever again.

I personally will buy a Good Cook can opener when my current one breaks. The only way I would switch to an electric can opener is if Good Cook made one of better quality.
