Attractive Decorating Ideas for Your Home: Install an Indoor Fish Pond

For those of you who have extra space in your house, you can bring a natural look to your home by adding an aesthetically pleasing fish pond. There are many designs to choose from when adding a small pond to the inside of your home. The first step is choosing what room to put your garden pond in. You will need to keep in mind this will be nearly impossible to move. Pick a location that is out of the way and can blend in to the room your placing it. When installing the pond you will need to choose a wall that can take the load of the water you will be storing in it. Usually this will be close to a bearing wall to displace the weight.

For a creative decorator you can add this behind or beside a bench. Next to your couch, in a living room corner. In fact depending on the size you can place this pond nearly anywhere. This is a relatively easy project to put together and can be as expensive or inexpensive as you choose. The framing of your pond will be 2×4’s covered with plywood inside and out. Once you have built your box, then you want to choose a liner. You can buy a pond liner or use a piece from a pool liner. Before placing the liner inside your frame you will want to put some padding down between the wood and the liner. There are many brands of padding you can buy it is important that it adds an appropriate cushion and protects the liner from possible wood splinters.

After lying your sealant and placing your liner in the frame you can attach these to the top frame of the box with staples or side boards. At the bottom of your pond you will want to place sand, gravel or both. This will make a bed for the plants you will add. At this point you have several options you can choose to add. A bio-filter and pump is almost a necessity if your adding fish. More than likely you will also want to place some lights to the bottom as well. Inside the pond you have many choices, you can place some rocks and create ledges for your plants or many other ideas. Once you have your design totally in place it is time to add the water. When filled before adding any trim or painting the outside of your pond you will want to watch carefully for leaks.

If no leaks have happened at this point you can add the outside trim boards and paint or stain your pond. Also after adding the water you will want to wait at least ten hours for the sand and gravel to settle at the bottom. When this has been completed you can add your plants and your fish. Plants are nearly a necessity if your adding fish as they will keep your water cleaner and really do add a pleasing touch to your pond.

An inside pond can be any size you choose and really does bring a wonderful look to your home. With a little time and a lot of care you can install a pond that will look like a professional has done it.
