Apple cider vinegar… I’m sure you heard of it. You may know of the many “home remedies” that it is attributed. From drinking apple cider vinegar for acid reflux to applying it to a plantar wart to remove it faster than over-the-counter products.
Are these things true? Well actually, yes! I personally dislike home remedies/herbal products and I feel that most are outright scams. However, my curiosity wouldn’t let me ignore the Apple Cider vinegar rave in which sinus infections, acne, high cholesterol, flu, chronic fatigue, candida, acid reflux, sore throats, contact dermatitis, arthritis, and gout are rumored to be solved by apple cider vinegar. I decided to do an experiment. I would both research and personally try apple cider vinegar on the two things that it is most commonly affiliated with.
Plantar Warts
This is the one that really kicked off my research. I had a rather annoying plantar wart on my right foot and I needed to get rid of it fast, as my holiday cruise was coming up. Of course, plantar warts are contagious so I felt I needed to be responsible. Looking into my medicine cabinet, I realized I didn’t have any of that dreaded 40% salidic acid solution which is almost always used to remove the skin infected with the virus that causes the wart. As a result, I thought I would try my grandmothers recommendation. To take a part of a cotton ball, dip it in apple cider vinegar and place it on the wart along with a strip of duck tape on top. To my surprise, the next day I woke up to realize that my wart was turning black! This was great news! The apple cider vinegar was killing the infected skin, but not the nearby healthy skin. In just 1 week the wart was completely black and was removed by me in only about 3 seconds. (with no pain) That’s not even the best part, my brother also had a plantar wart, except he used the standard acid patches. It took him 3 weeks to remove it! That’s enough proof for me…
Verdict:Apple Cider Vinegar is DEFINITIVELY an effective way to remove plantar warts.
Acid Reflux
A recent survey on acid reflux conducted at the Earth Clinic web site ranked apple cider vinegar as the best of all the home remedies suggested to relieve the symptoms of occasional heartburn or acid reflux. As some of my relative suffer from acid reflux, I decided to ask hem to try this solution. According to Earth Clinic the proper dosage of apple cider vinegar for acid reflux is 2 TBS ACV to 8 OZ of water 3x a day. To my amazement, both of my relatives called my up the very next day to comment about how successful apple cider vinegar is. They said the taste wasn’t great, but it was well worth it. According to them, they had significantly milder heartburn. My uncle said “I’m trashing my old medicine! This works better!”
Verdict:Apple Cider Vinegar appears to be an EFFECTIVE acid reflux controller.
OK, I know what your thinking. There is no way it works. If it was true I would have heard of it. My response is this: Apple cider vinegar costs fractions of what pharmaceutical drugs do. Why would drug companies want people to know about a extremely cheap alternative to their products? They wouldn’t…. I urge people to go try out Apple cider vinegar. You have nothing to lose.
