Alternatives to EBay: 3 Online Auction Sites for Sellers

For the seller desperate to find an alternative to eBay and their newest fee structure, look no further. Below are 3 promising online auction sites.

Online Auction Site #1: Onlineauction.com

Onlineauction.com is one of the few online auction sites which has the potential to really compete with eBay. Founded by Chris Fain, a successful auctioneer, Onlineauction.com is intended to help buyers and sellers thrive in a fair and profitable online auction. Onlineauction.com promises to

“Keep OnlineAuction.com simple and economical to use.
Be less controlling and more supportive of our customers.
Continue to develop innovative features and tools that are user friendly.
Stay loyal to our customers”

Unlike eBay, Onlineauction.com charges zero listing and final value fees for items sold. Instead, the auction site requires membership: a low monthly fee of $8, or an annual fee of $196, which lowers to $96 per year, each year after. The first million sellers to choose the yearly membership become founding fathers. This title affords them the same low yearly membership fee ($96) for the rest of their selling career. Unlike eBay, Onlineauction.com won’t continue to raise their fees whenever they see an opportunity; a refreshing notion for the disgruntled eBay seller.

Online Auction Site #2: Blujay.com

Blujay.com is a free online auction site. Though Blujay.com doesn’t receive nearly as much traffic as onlineauction.com, their listings are catalogued with Froogle. This means that your Blujay store will show up on a Froogle search. Unlike eBay, Blujay stores are also free. The stores aren’t elaborate; however, you are free to use minimal HTML and banners to make your store that much more appealing. One nice perk to this online auction site is that listings typically remain active for 180 days and can be automatically relisted once expired. Another great perk about Blujay is that they allow you to offer google checkout and paypal as payment methods. This is advantageous as a seller because there are many disgruntled paypal users that would much rather use google checkout. You are allowed 4 photos with every listing. In keeping with auction fashion, Blujay.com allows you to list items under one of 5 different categories: best offer, firm, negotiable, trade or make an offer. Blujay.com also offers you an HTML store icon that you can use to promote your store on your blog or elsewhere. This free, small, online auction site is worth checking out.

Online Auction Site #3: Overstock.com

Overstock.com, known largely as a place to buy outlet merchandise, also features online auctions. Overstock’s fee structure is similar to eBay’s old one (as in prior to February 20th, 2008), in that there are listing and final value fees, with comparable prices. From now until the 25th of February, however, Overstock auctions offers reduced listing fees, in what is clearly an attempt to capitalize on the thousands of displaced and disgruntled eBay sellers. Also in similiar eBay fashion, Overstock allows one free photo and 6 additional photos for $.10 each.
