After a long work week everyone loves to have a relaxing night out on the town where they can forget any troubles. A great way to do that is to visit a comedy club. Houston has many diverse and unique comedy clubs. Whether you are looking for big name comedians and entertainers, or if you prefer the best local talent, we have it all. Here are some recommendations of some of Houston’s best comedy clubs for you to try out and have some laughs.

Radio Music Theatre
2323 Colquitt
Houston, Texas 77098
713-522-7722

Located in the upper Kirby area of Houston is one of Houston gems. Formed in 1985 by Steve Farrell and his wife Vickie, this extremely popular comedy show also features Rich Mills. My family and I have had the pleasure of seeing their shows. The show is based on a fictional family called the Fertle family, which is loosely based on Steve’s own family in Iowa. Each of the three comedians does multiple comedy characters and plays instruments. As with many comedy venues they are geared toward adults, but their show is nor rude or vulgar so it would be appropriate for children of some age. Their hilarious improv has helped them be featured on MTV, Saturday Night Live, The Today Show, NBC Nightly News and the USA Network. You can get more details of their current shows and even how to purchase their comedy DVD’s here. I highly suggest not missing them, I am sad to say “The Fertle Farewell” will run from January through April of 2011 and then they are retiring.

If you are looking to see big name recognizable comedic talents than this is the comedy club for you. Located in the Spring Branch area of Houston you will find one of the most well known of our comedy clubs. The menu isn’t anything to write home about, but most people just order a couple of drinks and enjoy the show. They do have a two item order minimum and they add quite a large gratuity to your check, but if you want to see celebrity talent in Houston this is the best spot. Parking is always plentiful since this club is in the Marquee shopping center and Dave and Busters is right next door. The seating is first come so make sure you allow time to get a good seat since the line builds quickly. The big draw at this Houston comedy club is all the A-list talent. Many of these stars you have seen on Comedy Central, and in television and movies. They just featured Jamie Kennedy, upcoming comics include Alex Reyundo, Aries Spears, Paul Rodriquez, Christopher Titus, Craig Robinson (“The Office”), Pauly Shore, Brad Garrett (“From Everybody Loves Raymond”). You will get some great entertainment from some celebrity comedians.

Hours: You can view their calendar here they have comedians performing almost every night of the week at either 7:30 or 8:00 p.m. And on the Friday and Saturday nights there are two shows, one at 8:30 and then 10:30 p.m. You can also purchase your tickets online to be sure you do not miss out.

Founded way back in 1983 by Danny Martinez and his wife Blanca, many well known comedians got their start right here. Some who started out here being for become famous are Thea Vidal, Ralphie May, Rodney Carrington and Bill Engvall. Many comedians who once performed here have moved on to writing for “Saturday Night Live”, appearing on “The Tonight Show”, “Wayne Brady Show” and “Jimmy Kimmel. You might not know every comedian by name, but you will not be disappointed in their talent. This Houston comedy club even offers a defensive driving comedy course. If you are going to have to take it you might as well enjoy it. Here are the details on the days and times of the course. Some of their feature acts you can see soon are: Chris Strait (commentator of the E channel), Dean Austin ( who has been seen on Comedy Central, Showtime and “Hanging With Mr. Cooper”), Jack Mayberry (who brings clean humor has toured with Jay Leno, Rodney Dangerfield and Jerry Seinfeld).
