If you stop and question people on the street about whether or not they know who Alexandra Wentworth is, I’m willing to bet that most won’t have the foggiest idea. Wentworth, who up until now is largely unknown in the world of television, has started to make a name for herself with her new hit series Head Case on Starz.
Despite being relatively unknown, Wentworth has been working for many years in the entertainment industry. She got her start on stage but has also appeared in a handful of movies including Jerry McGuire and Office Space, she’s also appeared on television shows such as In Living Color, The Tonight Show and in 1995 played Jerry’s girlfriend Sheila in the famous ‘Soup Nazi” episode of Seinfeld. In addition, in 2003 she also co-starred with Jack Ford in the syndicated show Living it Up! With Ali & Jack, a morning talk show that was meant to compete with Live With Regis & Kelly, but was panned by the critics and was cancelled after just one season.
Wentworth’s newest project, Head Case, although not seen by many, is making a lot of noise in TV land. The premise of the show is that Dr. Elizabeth Goode (Wentworth) is a psychologist to the stars, though in many cases, she’s not really aware of that fact. Many of her clients are former child stars or other ‘Hollywood misfits. Dr. Goode lives in the Beverly Hilton Hotel and constantly gossips about all of her clients to anyone she can find. Her methodology is somewhat unconventional, she is very brash and judgmental but is undoubtedly thriving as the newest ‘it’ therapist to the Hollywood oddballs.
This 15 minute, fast paced comedy airs on Wednesday nights on the Starz network, which is a network of several movie channels that are offered through your local cable or dish provider. The reason that not many have seen the show is more than likely because Starz isn’t a regular cable or dish channel, you have to order in addition to your normal monthly package. As an individual who hasn’t ever heard of this show before, I believe that it is definitely worth watching. After taking a browse through the episode guide, many of the guest stars play themselves on the show, which is very similar to the style of the HBO series Entourage. Being only 15 minutes long, it sounds as if each episode has a lot packed into it, which means that the episodes will never drag, for there isn’t really time for a dull moment.
Rumors are spreading that the show is pushing for a 30 minute time slot for season three, but many worry that the structure of the episodes will change if an extra 15 minutes has to be filled (no commercial breaks on Starz). Personally I think that Wentworth has a great thing going, and I hope that it keeps getting better! As for me, I’m going to have to set my DVR so that I can start catching episodes. This definitely sounds like a show I wouldn’t want to miss.
