Al “Scarface Al” Capone: A True Gangster

Al Capone

Alphonse Capone was a very loyal man. Al’s nickname is “Scarface Al”. Al told many people he has gotten a scar on his face (where he gets his nickname from) from war but actually he got it in a bar fight. Al Capone was a faithful mobster (he put all his effort into his business). Al may be one of the most famous criminals in American history due to his success and failure in his 48 year long life.

Al Capone was born on January 17, 1899. In six grade Al got in a fight with is teacher and ended up quitting school all together. At a very young age after quitting school he got involved in a small time street gang operating in his neighborhood. As a member of the James Street Gang Al became very close friends with the gangs leader Johnny Torrio. The two remained life long friends as did Capone and Luciano who later became on of the most prominent criminals in the country. Al eventually moved up to the James Street Mob’s Senior Gang, the Five Point Gang.

In 1919 Capone moved to Chicago to escape arrest on a murder charge. Al was met there by Torrio who was already living there and in a Mob. In 1920 the boss of the mob Al was in was assassinated. Torrio then became leader and appointed Al second in command. In 1925 Torrio “retires” the mob life because of a assassination attempt that left him in the hospital for days. Al Capone’s most known act of murder was on February 14, 1929. Four of his men dressed as police entered George Moran’s North Side Gangs garage. Unfortunately the assassination attempt was a failure because George Moran was luckily not in the building at the time.

Despite many assassination attempts Capone was determined to rise further. He developed a massive spy network in Chicago that even included the police. This spy network would give him a heads up on many things that were going to happen. It may also have saved his life many times.
