5 Places to Visit in San Diego, California

Gaslamp Quarter, Parallel Parking, San Diego California

San Diego, California is one of the top destinations for tourists to come and visit. I’ve lived here my entire life and usually when people ask me where they should go, I always tell them these 5 places.

Seaport Village

Seaport Village offers an array of different things to do. It overlooks the San Diego Bay and the environment is absolutely beautiful. They have plenty of grass areas and trees for shade that you can take a nap under or make a picnic lunch. They have little shops to buy souvenirs from and even a cool magic shop. You’ll be able to see live entertainment from singers and dancers who perform near the Embarcadero Park who are extremely talented. Parking is usually by the meter which costs $.25 per half hour. They do have a parking lot that is free for the first 2 hours with validation after you purchase something and $2.00 per every half hour.

Old Town San Diego

This place is known for their culture. There are plenty of Hispanic restaurants that carry authentic burritos and salsa. Old Town San Diego is home of the Whaley House which is one of the most haunted houses in the United States. They offer tours around the area in their Trolley buses. They have street vendors who create items like airbrushed shirts or personalized name bracelets. They are also home to yearly events including the Art Crafts: Food, Music & Wine as well as Holiday in the Park which features performances and caroling. Parking is free, usually on the street and in large parking lots.

San Diego Birch Aquarium

This aquarium is more than just a home for our marine animals. They have exhibits that offer a great learning experience about certain animals along with education programs for children. They have special tours at an additional price. The best thing they offer is their feeding schedule. Not only can you learn about the animals but you can also watch them get fed and how they eat their food. Admission ranges from $12 for adults, $9 for college students, $8.50 for children 2-17 years old while children under 2 are free.

San Diego Gaslamp Quarter

Whether you want to shop, enjoy fine dining or get a taste of the nightlife, the Gaslamp Quarter is just for you! The Gaslamp is known for their entertainment. They have plenty of nightclubs to choose from. Parking can be a hassle unless you’re professional at parallel parking! Some parking spots have meters while other parking places have time minimums, ranging from 15 minutes to 2 hours. There are convenient parking lots located throughout the Gaslamp that charge hourly rates from $3 or $8-$15 for the whole day.

La Jolla Beach

You can do more than swim, tan and surf at this beach. La Jolla Beach offers snorkeling, kayaking and scuba diving. This beach is ideal if you have children because they have the Children’s Pool and also has the clearest beach water. Parking is free but make sure you abide by the minimum and maximum time limits. Most parking spaces have 2 hour maximums and some have 15 minute maximums.
