Bacardi, Limon, Liquor Store, Shaved

Described below is a list of favorite Mexican drinks compiled by a local Tampa Bay bartender that many of his clients have requested over the years. He granted me a recent interview. The recipes listed are his own. These are just suggested amounts, you may change them to suit your tastes.

Tequila Sunrise –

A great drink to relax with at the end of your hard week. It is a smooth mixed drink that is nice and sweet, without being overly sweet and has a nice fruity aroma.

2 oz Jose Cuervo 1800 Tequila

4 oz Orange juice

¾ oz Grenadine

Stir Tequila and orange juice with ice and strain into ice filled high ball glass (a tall glass will do). Pour grenadine slowly and allow it to settle. Before drinking, stir your drink to complete your sunrise.

You can buy Jose Cuervo 1800 for $10.99-$19.99 at Total Wine and Spirits. Cuervo 1800 comes in Gold, Silver and Anejo. It is up to you which you want to mix your drink with.

Margarita –

Here is a nice drink to unwind and let loose on any night of the week. Pair this drink with traditional Mexican dishes for a theme dinner or party.

1 ½ oz Petron Silver Rum

½(Consists of lemon juice and lime juice or can be bought at your local liquor store)

Splash Orange Juice

Dirty Mexican –

A mix of Bacardi Limon and Corona, it has a citrusy taste due to the lemon flavored rum and a bite to cut the citrus at the end from the Corona.

1 oz Bacardi Limon Rum

1 bottle Corona Beer

Drink a bit of the Corona out of the bottle or pour out into glass of your choice and mix in the Bacardi Limon.

Corona Beer can vary in prices so check your local favorite liquor store or grocery store for their current price.

Café Con Leche –

If you like a nice morning wake up coffee drink, this is the way to go. Go for a strong brew, and you can ask to lighten it more to cut the acidity of the strength or if you like a strong coffee drink, just let the barista make it their way. A Café Con Leche is decorated with a milk froth in the shape of a flower. The best can be found in Miami.

Strong cup of Cuban Coffee

Whole fat milk (Must be whole milk to achieve the right consistency for the froth.)

Fill a large, wide mug with desired coffee. Add milk. With a coffee press, steam some of the milk and make it into a froth. Add flower desingn.

Bloody Maria –

A great before lunch drink in Mexico or wherever you are located. It is also great for hangovers. It can also be known as “Hair of the Dog.”
