Best Low Calorie Mixed Drinks

Mixed Drinks

With almost everyone on the path to good health and fitness these days, low calorie mixed drinks have never been in higher demand. But sometimes finding the lowest calorie mixed drinks isn’t as easy as it sounds. You typically realize this when you’re out with friends at a club or restaurant, and you are hit with that all-important question, “What will you have to drink?” This is when your mind freezes and you inevitably spew forth the first thing that comes to mind, which unfortunately is probably one of those calorie poppers you pull from your preset drink list and that’s terrible for you. Therefore, it’s a good idea to go in with a game plan and a ready list of low calories mixed drinks. Here are a few with which you can reloaded that preset drink list.

‘Skip the mixer’cocktail – These days there are such a variety of flavored vodkas, rums, and other tasty alcohols. These flavored alcohols taste so good on the rocks, that you’ll hardly miss the mix…or the calories.

A ‘Sky’ Lite – I won’t mention my favorite brand of vodka, ahem, but I think it is obvious by the name choice for this low calorie mixed drink. The best thing about the ‘Sky’ Lite is that it can easily be varied depending on your mood, or what lite juice or drink you have available. Simply mix vodka with the amount and type of lite juice (whether it is orange, cranberry, lemonade, etc.) of your choosing, and you have a delicious and low calorie mixed drink.

Diet rum and cola – While this might not be the most exciting of low calorie mixed drinks, it is great standby for when you’re in a jam and can’t think of anything else to order. Ask for light rum, because I’ve heard rumors that darker and spiced rums are just a bit higher in calories.

A bit off the top – While the cocktail mix can be filled with calories, it is often the amount of alcohol that is used in a drink that can really add calories. It can therefore be to your advantage to scrimp on the alcohol in the drink, no matter what it is. If you can manage to create a tasty concoction (I like combining lite or natural fruit juices, with just a little alcohol), you can really save on the calories. Often you won’t even miss the alcohol since the mixed juices will mask the taste whether you use a little booze or a lot. It’s what I like to call ‘A bit off the top.” If my little woman ever reads this article though, I might be in a little trouble.

Mimosa – This is a fun, low calorie mixed drink that is not only delicious, but great for just about any time of day, place, or event. Using lite orange juice, mixed with champagne, which compared to other most alcohols per ounce is not as high in calories, this bubbly concoction can get you buzzed in a hurry.
