After three hilarious days in Austin at the Cap City Comedy Club, commediene Sommore heads to the studio to shoot another one woman show called “Chandelier Status”. This is a sequel of sorts to the DVD of her first one woman show called “The Queen Stands Alone” which is about her perspective on the sex lives and everyday troubles of African-American women.
This is just one stop on her non-stop career. She’s done movies, TV shows, hosted comedy shows like Russell Simmons’ “Def Comedy Jam,” and “Showtime at the Apollo.” She was also part of the record-breaking “Queens of Comedy” tour in 2000.
The stop in Austin was a break of sorts for Sommore who’s about to get back on the road with her fellow comediens, Mike Epps, Arnez J, Bruce Bruce, and Sheryl Underwood for the Royal Comedy Tour. Sommore has been headling this particular comedy tour for the last two years, the first woman to do so over male headliners. Unfortunately it won’t be coming to Austin this fall. The closest it’ll come to Texas is an October date in Fayetteville, North Carolina. After that Sommore says she’ll return to solo standup to promote “Chandelier Status”.
It’s a long way from the days when she was known as Lori Ann Rambough, a New Jersey math teacher. She quit that job because the call of stand up comedy was too loud to ignore. She says “I just want to do standup, like I’m one of those people who sought out to do standup and I want to do standup. I want to be one of those ladies who’s 85 years old and I retire in Vegas”
