Beautiful Outdoor Locations for Weddings in Kansas City

Kansas City Zoo, Wedding Locations

Having lived in Kansas City for several years now and also getting married here, wedding locations and events have crossed my eyes several times. In my time here I’ve seen some ideal locations for weddings and favorite spots to visit that are also favorites for weddings. Finding a place to get married in Kansas City shouldn’t be too hard were it not for all the choices as Kansas City is the City of Fountains. Since fountains are always a great place to take photos, there are many choices so the focus should not always be on the fountain, but what is around the fountain. This article will give an overview of a few of some great places to have weddings and specifically take photos.

Powell Gardens:

Located East of Lees Summit and within 1 hours driving distance of downtown Kansas City, Powell Gardens is a beautifully landscaped collection of gardens that includes its own chapel that can be used for weddings. There are many great photo opportunities at this park and lots to look at.

Loose Park:

Loose Park is very close to Kansas Cities much adored Plaza. Wedding photos take place there often and the rose garden is spectacular. There are also two gazebo’s , one giant one for barbeques and a smaller one near the rose garden. Of interest are a duck pond, herb garden, tennis courts, and two peripheral pathways around the park. This site is well landscaped and conveniently located.

The Plaza:

The plaza has many churches nearby, loose park is just around the corner and there are classy restaurants everywhere. Due to the fact the plaza has so many amenities and is near almost everything it is a fairly safe bet to get married and take photos in or around this location.

Vince and Associates:

This may sound strange, but on Metcalf Avenue in Kansas there is a clinical research center that has a beautiful waterfall outside its premises. I’ve seen wedding photos taken there primarily because of the giant man made waterfall with blue spruces on top. It’s nice to look at and take photos but not a good place for the actual wedding.

Shawnee Mission Park:

Located in Shawnee, Kansas about a half-hour’s drive west of Kansas City, Shawnee Park is huge. There is a lake, gazebo’s, barbeque sites galore and more. Check out the link with this article to see some photos. If groomed and vast scenery with a little more water is what you seek, Shawnee Mission Park has got it.

The Kansas City Zoo:

This one may also seem a little odd, but think about it. A tall Giraffe in the background of a wedding photo, fairly nice landscaping and a train that goes by the Australia and Asia.

Parts of the Zoo may be just what the Bride and Groom order in this exotic wedding location. The Kansas City Zoo caters specific events including wedding receptions and information about this can be found on their website.

Most of these sites will benefit the outdoor wedding and since a lot of weddings occur in the late spring and summer these locations are best suited for those times as well. When considering these locations also think about the temperature, convenience and cost effectiveness of getting married. Best of luck and enjoy the photos for years to come with these time tested picks.
