Vintage Cigar Box Lamp

You can make the cutest little lamp out of a small Vintage Cigar Box. I find these all the time at the local flea markets. For a while it was all the rage to make purses out of Vintage Cigar Boxes, but I think this lamp is so much cooler!

You can also buy a new wood cigar box and make the same cute accent lamp.

You can use your grandfather’s Vintage Cigar Box or even look online at ebay to find one.

In general you can find great Vintage Cigar Boxes made of wood from as little as $5 to as much as $50.

Be sure to buy a lamp kit that uses a small chandelier type bulb. This will only act as accent light!

You can buy a small accent light lamp kit at almost any arts and craft stores as well as at most hardware store. Generally you should expect to pay about $10 to $15 for the lamp kit. You need to provide your own small accent lampshade, light bulb, and lamp base!

To Make a Lamp Out of a Vintage Cigar Box You Will Need:

Vintage Cigar Boxes (2 – 4)

Power Drill

Drill Bit

Lamp Kit

The first step is to take your power drill, with the Drill Bit, and drill a small hole in the top lid of each Vintage Cigar Box.

Have this come straight out the bottom of the box. Now, on the bottom box in your stack you want the hole to go in through the top, but come out the back of the cigar box.

You want this hole to be right above the bottom edge of the Vintage Cigar Box.

This is where the electrical cord will be coming out of your Vintage Cigar Box lamp. If you have this cord coming out from underneath your box your lamp will not be stable or sturdy.

Install you lamp kit follow their instructions. Each lamp kit product will be different and it is best to use their specific instructions. Run your electrical cord out of the hole in the bottom of your Vintage Cigar Box.

Add a light bulb and a small lampshade and you are set!

Tips:

-Don’t limit yourself to Vintage Cigar Boxes. There are tons of pre made new wooden cigar boxes avail is in almost any cigar store.

-An unfinished cigar box from the arts and craft store is perfect for this accent lamp.

-To age your new cigar box try rubbing wood gel stain on it.

-Fill the empty Vintage Cigar Boxes with heavier objects like sand, marble, and pea grave to add some weight to the base of this small lamp. Stick to dry ingredients since this is a lamp!

-If you only have very small wooden Vintage Cigar Box, then try creating a tower of them. You can drill through three and stack them to make a taller accent lamp. You could also drill through each one on the side and attach hem horizontally with some nuts and bolts. This will build out a wider base.

For a large base for a traditional sized lamp tray making a base of four wooden Vintage Cigar Box. Build this up about five Vintage Cigar Boxes high. You can use a medium sized lampshade on this lamp base!
