Cheap Photography Props and Equipment You Can Buy Locally or Online

Angel Wings, Onesies

As a photographer you know that your props and equipment go through a lot of use and abuse. Knowing that your props and equipment may not last long can be discouraging, especially if they cost a fortune. Don’t despair, below is a list of websites and stores where you can buy cheap photography props and equipment today for just a few dollars.

Angel Wings $5.00 – $6.00
As a photographer you may be sick of photographing babies and children in angel wings, but to new Moms the wings are adorable. The angel wings are one of my biggest requests. I have two sets of angel wings in my studio an 8″ size and a 12″ size. They were just $5.00 and $6.00 from Belger Photo. I recommend buying two of each size. Keep one set in storage while the other set is in use as a backup in case they are ruined.

Clamps $1.00
There is nothing more annoying then a photo ruined by a wrinkle in the backdrop. To avoid wrinkles I use clamps found at the Dollar Tree. They usually have three sizes in stock a set of four small clamps, two medium clamps, or one large clamp. I use the medium clamps often. The small clamps come in handy for clamping draped fabric in place around moms and babies.

Colorful Onesies $1.00
Onesies make a nice simple outfit for babies, especially if your trying to capture action shots. The Dollar Tree almost always has plain colored onesies in many colors available. I have found sizes 6-9 months, 9-12 months, and 12-18 months at my local Dollar Tree. Best of all if a baby spits up on the onesie or has other unpleasant accidents I can just toss the onesie or let mom take it home with her without a huge loss. You can also run a promotion using the onesies as a giveaway. If marketed correctly you can turn a cheap photography prop into cash fast.

Giant Teacup $18.83
Another overdone, but largely requested cheap photography prop is the giant teacup. They sell on Ebay for aroung $50.00 but if your lucky you may be able to find them at your local Super Wal-Mart. As much as I dislike like Wal-Mart I did swallow my pride and drove 30 minutes to the nearest Super Wal-Mart to get my Giant Teacup at $18.83 they are a steal. You will get a huge return on this investment. The teacups work for babies and puppies. There are three styles available polka dot, stripped, and multi-colored. The teacups are technically planters so they are located in the garden section.

Mini Backdrops $1.00+
You don’t have to shell out hundreds of dollars on backdrops. For many photos you can use material remnants as a cheap photography prop. It is faster and easier than changing your backdrops in photoshop when possible. You can lay babies on the remnants or use your clamps from the Dollar Tree to tack a mini backdrop onto your full size backdrop just behind your models head when doing head shots. Material remnants can be found at Wal-Mart, JoAnn’s, or any local stores that sell fabric. Stick to solids and simple patterns that have a matte finish.
