Review: Stonyfield Organic Yogurt

Stonyfield

My boyfriend and I occasionally eat yogurt and saw something new in the grocery store, so we decided to try Stonyfield Organic Yogurt Super Fruits variety of Pomegranate Raspberry Acai with fruit on the bottom. This yogurt contains no gelatin, as some yogurts do. As vegetarians, we don’t consume gelatin. (Side note: If you’re unsure from what gelatin is made, it’s not pretty!)

The Container/Packaging

The yogurt comes in a standard small plastic container of 6 ounces (170 grams) with a peel off foil lid. The lid contained a coupon for 50 cents off a quart (32 ounce) container of their brand of yogurt. On the front of the container at the top it says in small letters “since 1983” with the word Stonyfield below in large letters and the word organic below that with a cow peeking its head out of a semi-circle.

Near the bottom is the variety: Super fruits Pomegranate Raspberry Acai and fruit on the bottom. Also, the words “fat free” are written at the very bottom in a light blue area.

Also on the front of the container it is listed that this product is grade A nonfat yogurt with vitamin D added and that it’s USDA organic. I don’t recall the exact price, but we decided to buy this product because it was a good price and very comparable to other regular yogurts.

The Flavor

This yogurt is very creamy and just the right thickness. It is delicately sweet and tart and not something I would characterize as “over-flavored.” The taste is very mild, in my opinion, unlike some yogurts.

I can taste the fruits only slightly, and it has a noticeable berry flavor, but, to me, it’s well blended in its taste and nicely made. Upon opening the yogurt it looked mostly white, but since it said “fruit on the bottom” I stirred it up and saw the fruit pieces mix in to turn the yogurt a pale pink — almost purple — color. I think the yogurt tastes great and makes a healthy addition to lunch at work or a light afternoon or evening snack.

Nutritional Information

As with most yogurts, the serving size is one container of 6 ounces. Each serving contains 120 calories with no fat calories. There is no fat or cholesterol in this yogurt and low sodium of only 130 mg (5% of the recommended daily value). It also contains 330 mg of potassium (9% DV), 6 grams of protein (12% DV), and 22 grams of total carbohydrates with 4% DV, or less than one gram, of fiber.

The probiotic cultures found in the yogurt include S. thermophilus, L. bulgaricus, L. acidophilus, Bifidus, L. casei, and L. rhamnosus. As far as vitamins go, the yogurt provides 25% DV of calcium and 15% of vitamin D with little else. This product is gluten free. As with all yogurts, this product must remain refrigerated.

Overall

It seems like this company really does try to provide worthwhile products as well as give back to the people and the earth. They offer a rewards program, coupons, donate to charities, and partner with other companies that also do good for the planet. The taste is good and the price was reasonable. I highly recommend Stonyfield yogurts to anyone who loves a milder tasting yogurt that is organic and from a great company.
