Top 5 Theme Parks in the US

Cedar Fair, Cedar Point, Kings Island, Theme Parks, Universal Studios Orlando

One of the best things about spring break and summer vacations is having the opportunity to get out and see America. One of the most American of institutions is the American theme park/amusement park. Theme parks can be found in every state in the country, but the true question is which 5 theme parks are the best in the country. To find this out, I am using a bit of personal experience, a collective group frequent theme park visitors and some good old fashioned detective work. Things that got theme parks rated highly in our search for the five best theme parks in the country were first and foremost the number and quality of roller coasters, the overall size of the theme park and last but certainly not least the appeal of the park to the target audience – children! Now that you know the criteria let’s explore our list of the five best theme parks in the country.

#5 Universal Studios – Orlando, FL

While not known for being a coaster enthusiasts wonderland, Universal Studios is undoubtedly one of the top 5 theme parks in the country. The rides and shows are world famous and you’d hard press to find anyone in the country who hasn’t heard of Universal Studios and their movie themed attractions.

#4 Disneyland Resort – Anaheim, CA

For those of you that don’t think Disneyland deserves a place on the list of the top 5 theme parks in the country, I say that 20 million visitors a year puts it firmly on any top vacation list that you can come with. Disneyland has been the envy of theme parks for decades and will be for decades to come.

#3 King’s Island – Mason, OH

If this list were for states with the best theme parks, Ohio would certainly give any state a run for its money. With that said, it’s no surprise that Ohio would have an entrant on the list for the top 5 theme parks in the country. King’s Island is massive. It will take a couple of days just to walk past all the attractions and the roller coasters are top notch. King’s Island is a must see.

#2 Disney World – Orlando, FL

When you wish upon a star for theme parks, you get Disney World. Disney does nothing second class and even after you’ve been to this theme park 4 or 5 times, you still find something you haven’t seen before. What else can you say about Disney World that hasn’t been said a million times? Just ask any child where they want to go and you’ll hear Disney!

#1 Cedar Point – Sandusky, OH

We started out with coasters as our starting criteria for finding the top 5 theme parks in the country, so it should be no surprise that the coaster capital of the US is our number one theme park. In my research, I couldn’t find a single credible list that didn’t have Cedar Point in the top 5. It offers the most coasters of any place in the US and it boasts a coaster that use be the world’s tallest. Cedar Point is the only choice for the true coaster connoisseur which is why it is at the top of our list of top 5 theme parks in the country.
