The Acer Aspire 5532

Hello, and welcome to a review of the Acer Aspire 5532. After having the laptop for nearly a year, I think it’s about time to review it.

The Acer Aspire 5532 is a simplistic laptop. It has a very nice 15.6″ HD LCD which creates a well sized work space for me, as I use the laptop for editing, artwork and animation. What really got me hooked was the low price. The deal I got for this laptop for was about $300 without taxes. It is classified for mostly web surfing and work done for your job or school, although I do use it for gaming.

The laptop itself has an integrated ATI Raedon HD 3200 Graphics card and a 1.6Ghz AMD Athlon 64 TF-20 processor. It’s low end, but it is able to run many games including Half Life 2 and Crysis (Yes, even Crysis) on low quality. I don’t really mind about the setting for it as performance beats anything else (but they still look nice low and medium). As for the ports, keyboard, and the disc drive, this laptop does a great job.

There are only 2 USB ports and no HDMI port, so that disappointed me, but I couldn’t pass up this offer. It has a numeric key pad, a very sturdy keyboard, and a great disc drive. As for the hard drive, I wouldn’t say I was disappointed, nor was I happy. It was only 160GB and was somewhat slow, but it did the job for me. The amount of RAM was an amazing deal, as it came with 3GB (although like with most RAM a small portion of it is unusable, but it still runs with 2.75GB of RAM). It comes with some software, but barely anything that would be classified as Bloatware. You might want to remove one or two things, but most of it is pretty useful or normal.

7.5/10
Summary-Overall, this is a beginner’s laptop mostly used for work and internet surfing rather than gaming. It is able to run low end games such as Half Life 2 and Crysis (Low quality). It has a small hard drive, but it will do well for a bit over a year before you need either an external hard drive or a new computer. The laptop is portable for its size and is basically everything you could want, although I am still upset about the lack of an HDMI port. The charger lasted about 8 months before it broke, but I was able to fix it myself by getting a new head (EXTREMELY DANGEROUS! DO NOT ATTEMPT).

Pros- Large HD LCD, average graphics card, Numeric Keypad, Disc Slot, Media Card reader, integrated wireless connections, Windows 7, large touchpad, sturdy and well spaced keys, average CPU (able to run Crysis on low without much lag), little to none Bloatware, 64 Bit, very sturdy casing, very low price, 3GB RAM,

Cons- 160 GB Hard drive, no HDMI, only 2 USB ports (there was room for expansion), low battery life, the battery charger can easily be broken, average hard drive speed.
