A Review of “craigslist” in the Jacksonville Florida Area

Craigslist.org, Fernandina Beach, Sell a Car

Using http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/ I have sold several things, including giving away some scrap metal.

Listing with “craigslist” the Jacksonville area is a easy, and free. There are two types of ways to list with them, one is creating an account, and the other is handling your adds using your email, without an account.

I always prefer to never sign up for any thing, even if its free. If I have to sign a user agreement, I will usually just close my browsers tab. It is a tedious thing for me to sign up for this, or sign up for that just so I can do a minor free thing, like post a sell add.

Not only does the email method allow me to post without signing up, I also can have an organized list of “craigslist” posted adds in my email folder.

Something that makes “craigslist” a great place to browse and post, is the free section. People give away all kinds of things they no longer want, like pool tables, pianos, furniture, and even running cars.

At home I piled up a lot of scrap iron, that included bicycle frames, and even an engine block I picked up from the road side. I tried contacting the people that posted wanted adds, to give them my scrap, but because I live in Fernandina Beach and not Jacksonville, no one would come and get it. After I took pictures of the scrap, and posted it for free on “craigslist”, I received an offer within two days, and was able to give it away.

I also helped my parents sell a car on “craigslist” for about $500.00. My dad took some pictures of it, and I wrote a small add and posted it on “craigslist”. Within about four days the car was sold, and the people came from Jacksonville to get it.

Another item I sold was two old, non running 1981 motorcycles. I took about one to two weeks to get a response for them, and ounce the man came and took a look at them, he was very happy to be buying them. I was selling both bikes for $100.00 together, but dropped the price two or three times to $40.00. Since the man only wanted one of them, I sold it for $40.00, and then sold the other one for $20.00 on “craigslist”.

On “craigslist” you get an option of posting up to four pictures, and it is all free. The four pictures is a good amount for posting a free selling add.

Another thing about “craigslist” is you have an option to completely hide your email address, and you can communicate only through it. It is up to you, but I notice most people post their telephone number as the contact source, along with having their email hidden.

Spam is hard to get on “craigslist”, and if something gets on their server, it is quickly deleted. This is because “craigslist” have a flagging system, and I have found high traffic on jacksonville.craigslist.org. Things get posted, and responded to quickly, which means spam posts get spotted and flagged quickly.

There are many areas of “craigslist” to post to, and I only mainly only dealt in the car and free section. I have had good success of finding nice cars, and also selling old things like the two junk motor cycles for a few bucks. And thanks to God, this service is free. However I have noticed they started charging people for posting job adds.

There are so many sections to browse and post to, it takes up the entire middle of the index page, and that is just a list of titles without descriptions. These are the main sections on the index page of http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/: community, housing, jobs, personals, for sale, discussion forums, services, gigs, resumes and it looks like the list goes on from there.

Something I would take caution with, is the personals. It is very dangerous to meet anyone over the internet, and It does not matter if it is down the street. It is dangerous enough to meet someone in person, much less someone advertising a meeting over the internet.

Over all with the free service and high traffic, I highly recommend using http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/ to sell and buy from. When I think about looking at cars to buy, “craiglist” is where I look. And if I want to sell a vehicle, “craiglist” is my first choice.
