Food Review: Keebler Ready Crust Graham

Cheese Cake, Keebler

No bake cheese cake kits, quick and easy cheese cake in a matter of an hour or so. Ya, right. Every time you try to make the crust, it crumbles apart. You don’t want to serve it to guests because you know it will look terrible on the plate. Maybe a frozen pie crust will be better. After a few weeks in the freezer, it has shattered and is useless. Isn’t there a better way? On your next trip down the baking aisle at the super market, pickup two or three Keebler Ready Crusts.

These things are great, they can sit on the self in your pantry, no refrigeration needed. Wow, the shelf life is about two years, surly you’ll get around to making a pie before they expire. This can be a life saver for the procrastinator that doesn’t get around to making that special dessert until the last minute. You invited the neighbors over for dinner weeks ago, but it has to be on the table in a couple hours and you don’t have time to run to the store.

With one of these pie shells in your pantry, a fancy dessert can be put together in no time. Every household has a few boxes of pudding mix for when the kids want a treat. With a box of sugar free pudding mix, some fresh fruit, and a container of Fat Free Cool Whip, you can assemble a great desert that is low fat, and safe for most anyone to eat.

Just today, I sliced up a few frozen strawberries and lined the bottom of one of these graham cracker crusts with them. Mixed up a box of cook and serve sugar free pudding, throwing in a handful of coconut as it was cooling for a few minutes. Then I poured the pudding over the strawberries and placed the pie in the refrigerator while I ran an errand. I took the container of Cool Whip out of the freezer to thaw, and I’m all set to impress the family at the end of supper tonight.

Keebler Ready Crust has only 5g of fat, and has zero cholesterol. Sugar measures out at only 6g, with Sodium at 115mg. Over all a pretty healthy dessert.

For less then a dollar when purchased at Sav-a-Lot, this is the quickest, easiest quality dessert I’ve found in a long time.

Don’t feel your limited in what you make your pies from, there is no rules with pies. Banana’s make an excellent choice as well. Most any pie filling that doesn’t require cooking in the crust will work just fine.

A very handy feature of the packaging is the plastic liner that helps the crust retain it’s shape while sitting on the shelf. This same liner can be turned over once the pie is made and can be used as a carrier to transport the pie, or to store the pie in the refrigerator.

Even the aluminum tin can be reused for other things. Keep a supply of them for storing dinner left overs, or making up a re-heatable TV dinner using tin foil in place of the plastic liner.

Keebler has a winner in their Ready Crust Graham, I give them a definite thumbs up for quality and convenience.
