Product Review: Playskool Weebalot Castle

Moat, Playskool

You may have seen the Weebalot Castle from Playskool on the shelves of your local toy store. Maybe you were intrigued by the looks of it or thought that it would make a great gift for your toddler. I purchased the Playskool Weebalot Castle for my youngest daughter as a Christmas gift from Santa. It has been a great purchase and she still plays with it months later.

I’m sure that most of you know what a Weeble is since many of you probably had one or two of the little people when you were children. Everyone knows the phrase “Weebles wobble but they don’t fall down”. Children, especially toddlers, love these little people from Playskool and my daughter is no different. The Weebalot Castle is filled with tons of fun and activities for your toddler’s imagination to explore.

The Playskool Weebalot Castle is a Weebles playset that consists of a big plastic castle, 4 Weebles (princess, knight, horse and dragon), a bed, a boat, a round table, a chair, the throne, a slide, staircase, a drawbridge ramp, a lookout turret, story board book and instructions. The Weebalot Castle requires three “C” batteries and will need to be put together by an adult. It is recommended for ages 18 months and up and retails for approximately $39.99. It even took home Honors at the NAPPA Awards.

When you first open the box of the Weebalot Castle you will see many pieces waiting for you to put it together. Don’t get overwhelmed, the castle is very easy to put together and all of the pieces basically just pop into place. No tools are required except for a screwdriver to open and close the battery compartment. Once you get the castle put together it’s all ready for your toddler to enjoy.

The Playskool Weebalot Castle is full of electronic effects. It plays several different types of music when it is activated. There is a red button on the inside of the castle that will activate the music and there is a flag on the front of the castle that, if pushed down, will activate the music also. I didn’t even know about the flag until my toddler figured it out because it’s not noted in the instructions that came with the Weebalot Castle. Once the music is activated you will see the moat start to turn and the dance floor on the inside will begin to spin. This gives your toddler a chance to let their Weebles dance a little or just enjoy a nice float in the boat around the moat.

You will notice that the removable lookout turret has a flag on top and attached to that is a “seat” for the dragon to sit in. Your toddler can then pretend that the dragon is flying around the castle turret by simply pushing the seat around and around. My toddler enjoys roaring like a monster while she does this. There is also a drawbridge on the front of the castle so that your toddler can let the knight on horseback into the castle to spend the day with his lovely princess. When you lower the drawbridge (and press the flag down) you will hear the sounds of the knight’s galloping horse coming up the road.

If you set the knight on top of the other lookout station you can press the little lever that will drop him down onto the slide and watch him slide down into the throne room. If the throne is pushed a little to the left then the knight will fall down into a secret “tunnel” that leads down into the moat and possibly a waiting boat. This secret spot is great for a quick getaway or just for a speedy arrival into the dance hall for a swing around the dance floor with his princess. Your toddler can watch the princess and her knight spin around and around the dance floor to the music.

The only aspect of the Playskool Weebalot Castle that I dislike is that the front “walkway” and the inside staircase like to pop off very often. We are always having to pop them back into place when my youngest daughter is playing with her castle. Other than that I have not had any problems with the Weebalot Castle and I believe it was a great gift for the price. My daughter plays with it very often and even plays with her little Weeble people without the castle on occassion. If you are looking for a great gift for your toddler that will encourage and help them explore their budding imaginations then I highly suggest the Playskool Weebalot Castle.
