Since I’ve been struggling with eczema, I’ve been on a quest for healthy, natural, safe health and beauty products. My hands and skin come in constant contact with water, detergents, food preparation, and as a full-time writer, the unsanitary computer keyboard and mouse. Burt’s Bees Hand Salve is a light, fragrant, natural salve made from sweet almond oil, olive oil, beeswax, tocopheryl acetate and tocopheryl (vitamin E), comfrey root extract, rosemary oil and leaf extract, lavandin oil and flower extract and eucalyptus oil. Notice there is no alcohol, parabens (parafin wax), mineral oil, petroleum jelly or laurel stearate. These products are commonly found in hand lotions, salves and skin creams. They are very harsh on the skin, despite claims of soothing the skin.
Several years ago, I was solicited by a friend who sold Arbonne skin products. Arbonne is sold via home parties and sales representatives. Arbonne is also sold by multi-level marking tactics (aka pyramid scheme) which I don’t believe are ethical. I don’t discount Arbonne’s properties, but I do object to the extremely high price. 4 fluid ounce bottle of Arbonne ultra-hydrating hand lotion runs $18. Burt’s Bees Hand Salve and skin products have the same, if not better healing properties. The difference is cost; Burt’s Bees skin products cost a fraction of the Arbonne prices. A 3 oz. tin of Burt’s Bees hand salve retails for $9. I use my Burt’s Bees Hand Salve daily and have barely scratched the surface. And I can buy Burt’s Bees products at my local grocery store and pharmacy. Burt’s Bees does no testing on animals, either.
