Mary Kay Product Review: Tinted Moisturizer and Mineral Powder

Mineral Powder, Sunscreen Spf, Tinted Moisturizer

As a child of the ’80’s, I’ve always been used to heavy makeup. You know, the darker and heavier, the better you look! Well, that time has passed and now the light and natural look is in. Thank goodness! Over the years, new products have been introduced and some have succeeded well. I’ve tried a lot of different types of makeup but I do believe I have found what I was looking for with the Mary Kay Tinted Moisturizer and Mineral Powder.

I’ve only been using the products for a little over a month and I am very happy with them. I started out with just using the Mineral Powder, which was fine, but I felt I needed just a little more boost of color. My Mary Kay rep. suggested the Tinted Moisturizer, saying a lot of people use the combination of both. Now, she is very happy with just using the Mineral Powder and it looks great on her. So, it really depends on your skin tone and your comfort level whether you want to use them together or not.

The Tinted Moisturizer is just that: a lotion with color added to it. It also has sunscreen SPF 20. It comes in a 1.5 FL. OZ. tube for about $15. I just squirt a little out onto the palm of my hand and massage in just like a lotion. I do have to make sure that I get it all over and don’t miss any spots, but it’s very easy to apply. Instantly my complexion looks smooth and natural with just the right amount of color. It does have just a hint of an oily look to it, but for me, that’s okay. I have very dry skin and that oily look goes away quickly. The color matched to my skin tone is the ivory 2. Matching up the color is very important to keeping that light and natural look.

The next step is the Mineral Powder. This is also the ivory 2, so the two products work together. It comes in a .28 OZ. cute little round container, just like other loose powders, but with a higher cost of $18. While the lid is still on, I shake it slightly to get the powder to come through the little holes of the inner cover. I don’t want too much to come through because with this powder, a little goes a very long way! The powder brush that came with it has a short handle and very full, round bristles. It picks up a lot of the powder, so I have to be very careful to not get too much. I usually end up using the lid to the powder to tap off any excess on the brush. I start on my forehead and work my way down to my neck with the powder. After applying the powder, any oily look the moisturizer may have caused is now gone. My skin tone is now smooth, natural and even.

On a normal day, my makeup will last without any re-applications. This means that I’m not out in the yard sweating it all off. I am a teacher and I can go to school in the morning and when I come home in the evening, my makeup is still in place. The claim is that the powder is non-transferable, but I find it to be just a little bit. I don’t worry about the moisturizer coming off, because that has soaked into my skin, just like a lotion. This powder does tend to stay in place much better than just a regular face powder, though. It doesn’t crease or get bunched up around my wrinkles. It keeps a nice, smooth look to it all day long.

My only complaint would be with the brush. I’m not sure what it is made of, but while putting on the powder, it tends to leave pieces of the bristles on my face. Not a lot, but I do always go back with a mirror to make sure none of them are stuck to me making me look like I have dark hairs growing on my face! I do like the texture of the brush and the thickness. So, I feel it’s a fair tradeoff. The brush does work well with the powder when applying it.

Overall, I feel these two products are well worth the money. They feel great and look great. Plus, a little goes a long way, especially with the Mineral Powder. I still have several months worth left of it. As for the Tinted Moisturizer, I do have a lot left, but I’ll probably have to replace it before I replace the powder. These products make me feel great about my face, which is very important. They are light-weight and with summer coming up, I look forward to wearing my makeup! I encourage anyone looking for a great, natural feeling makeup to check out these two products by Mary Kay.
