Product Review of John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Luminous Color Glaze

Frieda, John Frieda

The new Brilliant Brunette product by John Frieda, Luminous Color Glaze for chestnut to espresso colored hair, works perfectly with the dark, straight hair that comes with my Asian heritage. Because my hair is a brown black with natural reddish brown highlights, I consider myself a brunette and use hair products such as John Frieda Luminous Color Glaze geared towards brunettes.

John Frieda Luminous Color Glaze comes in 2 different shades each to compliment your brunette, blonde or red hair best. Just pick the shade that most matches your natural or color treated highlights.

Value

At $7.97 a bottle for 6.5 fluid oz., John Frieda Luminous Color Glaze for brunette hair is not cheap. However, it beats the price of a salon gloss or highlighting treatment any day. My long hair is six inches past my shoulders and based on the amount of glaze that I have put on with each treatment, I estimate that the bottle of John Frieda Luminous Color Glaze for brunette hair will last me about a month and a half for a 3 times a week treatment.

Ingredients
According to its packaging John Frieda Luminous Color Glaze uses “Color Illuminating Technology” containing mild dyes and shine boosters to extend the life, luminosity and tonal richness of brunette hair. It is ammonia and peroxide-free so it is gentle and non-damaging as well.

Application

I found John Frieda Luminous Color Glaze for brunette hair easy to apply. The directions ask you to shampoo and condition first with John Frieda Brilliant Brunette products. I used my normal shampoo and conditioner (both Pantene Pro V Brunette Expressions for nutmeg to dark chocolate colored hair), and it seems to work just fine.

The directions state to wash your hands thoroughly after each use. I suspect that it would stain your hands otherwise. Although not suggested, I protected my hands with a clear plastic bag from the grocers (latex gloves would work as well) when applying John Frieda Luminous Color Glaze.

The Luminous Color Glaze for brunettes is dark chocolate in color and has a pudding like consistency. After shampooing and conditioning, I squeezed the excess water out of my hair as directed and smoothed on two nickel sized dollops of glaze into my hair from root to tip.

You are supposed to leave the John Frieda Luminous Color Glaze in your hair for at least 3 minutes. I use this time to soap up, shave and wash my face making sure not to get any water in my hair. After 3 to 5 minutes have passed I thoroughly rinse the Luminous Color Glaze from my hair.

There is a chemical smell that accompanies this glaze. However, if you rinse your hair thoroughly, most of the smell disappears, and by the next day, it is undetectable. The smell is not too terrible. I’ve used self-tanners that have smelled much worse with its unpleasant odor lingering for days.

Results
Brilliant Brunette John Frieda Luminous Color Glaze left my hair feeling noticeably softer, smoother and silkier. Appearance wise, my dark hair took on a warmer tone. My natural reddish brown highlights are more pronounced and overall, my hair appears shinier and glossier.
